Holy. Fucking. Shit.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT.

I freeze to the scene presenting in front of me.

My mouth lightly gapes in shock as I take my headphones and hood off in one swift but shaky motion.

My eyes scan what's happening in a panicked way. They frantically jump from a place to another, unable to take all the elements in and desperately trying to understand what is going on, when the answer is clear...

"Yes Y/n. A sunset, of course." My sweet little annoying voice whispers in my head.

I close my eyes and inhale, a habit that I try to maintain to control my anxiety.

Bad idea, I breathe in smoke that makes me immediately cough hard.

Once I'm back on my feet I forcefully rub my orbs with my hands, wishing my mind was just playing with me but when I look back up the view hasn't changed.

My apartment, or well, what remains of it, is surrounded by vicious flames that rise turning into pitch black clouds of smoke that disappeare into the equally dark sky.

House fire. Fun.

I am dumb, that's no secret but how could I be so dumb not to question the sunset at...

I check the time,

...1:11 am.

"WOO 1.11, Y/n make a wish"

I sigh a light "Done" under my breath, tired of having this constant counterpart replying to everything I think.

"Great, maybe you won't be this stupid from now on"

Wowowow, why is my inner voice so good at degrading me?

Has it something to do with the fact that I'm kinky-

I know I know, getting insulted by your own mind might sound like a freak thing but trust me.

I am a freak.

So no surprises.

The smell of burnt and the bright light make me wince and come back to reality, now what.

What would a good citizen do in this situation?

Right. Call the firefighters.

"Uuuughh do I really have toooo" I lightly groan, I'm just so tired and maybe a liiiittle tiny bit lazy...

Fuck it, I grab the keys of my car and go open it as I had it parked right next to me, luckily it didn't catch on fire or luckily they didn't set it on fire.

Fuckers.

It is a real wreck after all. I love cars don't get me wrong but I know the art of keeping a low profile and I'm sure a vintage Camaro, my dream car, wouldn't do that so well.

The door creaks as I open it, "I know I know" I say to the car while patting it, she's quite old so I treat her as gently as possible.

I get inside, sit on the driver seat and put my backpack on the passenger's one, I wiggle a little and make myself comfortable.

Next thing I know I hear my stomach growl, can't really blame it I don't think I have eaten much today. Like I would know with this great memory of mine.

Food.

"Food food food food" I say in a rhythm while looking through every single compartment of my car's insides until...

"HA HAA! Found you, you lil mf...all mine"
I exclaim while taking the half eaten sandwich wrapped in aluminum from my illegal stuff drawer.

It was a real crime to leave it halfway so it deserved to be in that place.

I take the sandwich and might be the pyromaniac in me, I decide to go sit on the curb right in front of my flat to admire the show.

I stumble my way to the curbside and sit right where I wanted then, taken over by the hunger I unwrap and attack my sandwich happily starting to chomp it.

I zone out looking at the savings of my life disappear flame by flame...When I first got this house I treated it as one of my girls but, just like all of them, it didn't last long.

It was a nice little apartment on the second floor...I didn't have a lot in it, a mattress, a tv and a microwave....not Vision...Cause I've been living on frozen pizza for way too long to not have one.

It wasn't much but it was home, and it actually felt like one.

My landlord was a girl my age I think, if not younger. I still didn't even had the chance to meet her in real life.

Crap. She won't be too happy about this.

I take one last bite from my sandwich and that's when I realise how bad the situation actually is.

"FUCK." I shout, my voice echoing in the empty streets.

"PICKLES. Pickles! That's what was missing in it. Holy hell, how could I not notice" I lightly shake my head disappointed in myself.

I look at the wrapping in my hands and loudly chuckle at how idiotic I am. I know very well pickles should be the last thing on my mind right now but I've always used humor and self depreciation to distract myself from my actual problems.

So yeah, here I am, complaining about a pickleless sandwich while literally all I had is vanishing into smoke.

The contrast of the cold suburbs air and the heat emitted by the fire combine into an enjoyable feeling on my skin.

With my tummy full and my head heavy, I close my eyes for a brief moment wishing that I could magically wake up in my home again.

Like what Dylan told me once. He has told me that when he was little he'd sometimes fall asleep on the couch and then magically wake up tucked in his bed. He then explained to my oblivious self that it'd be his mom to take him from the sofa and carry him all the way to his bedroom.

I always listened to his stories mesmerized and even a little jealous of the childhood memories I never got to have.

Right as I was falling into deep slumber immerse in my thoughts, I see a slim figure appeare on the road rushing to the flat as panicked as I was just some minutes earlier.

Even though I can't really make out their features I can deduce what's going on in their head by their body movements and let me tell you, they need to calm down.

I see the shadow stop in front of the fire, really close...maybe too close.

I get up with a grunt and make my way to them, I really don't want to deal with a human barbecue today so when I'm right behind the stranger I put my hand on their shoulder trying to pull them back.

That makes them flinch and abruptly turn to face me, raising their fists and assuming a fighting stance.

"Kate?"

A/n: hellooo here it is, chapter 2 :) I hope it wasn't too difficult to understand, I know lot of inner monologue going on here but I promise it'll get more interesting. Thank you for reading 🫶🏻
