jeongin could cry. but he suppressed it. he was stressed and it felt like he was stuck. he set down his script and sat at the edge of the stage. there was a party somewhere that night on compas, all his friends kept begging him to tag along but jeongin just could not until he perfected his lines. he was one of the three main leads after all.

the university hosts two plays each year and they were big deals. each year many students would audition, making it quite competitive. after being rejected three times, finally in his second year and the last play of that year, he was finally able to get a role. one of the leads at that. auditions were quite fierce and jeongin wanted to be able to play his role perfectly. he didn't want the director or any other student to think that he was unworthy of the role.

his role was simple, he played the best friend who has been in love with his best friend since forever ago. sadly, he doesn't exactly get a happy ending with the main lead. jeongin sighed as he couldn't get the emotions just right. he was fortunate enough that the drama professor let him use the auditorium that night, but as the hours passed he found himself making no progress at all. for hours he tried to read the lines differently but they all didn't sound right, like he was missing something but couldn't figure out what it was.

jeongin sighed as he slowly began to stand up again as if he were an old man. as he stood in the middle of the stage he flipped through the script, looking for a line he was having a hard time with (which happened to be 75% of the script.) as he was going to start practicing again, the door to the auditorium opened. "hey, are you using the space as well?" hwang hyunjin was the main male lead in the play and someone who jeongin thought was a natural actor, something he wished he was. "uh yea.." he projected his voice so hyunjin could hear him but he trailed off at the end, jeongin thought he would be able to get the space all to himself; he didn't expect someone to walk in at 1am of all times. "mind if i practice here for a bit?" jeongin wanted to say yes, that he did mind, as he didn't want to embarrass himself in front of the older. what if his practicing was bad and hyunjin convinces the director that he wasn't worthy of the role? he couldn't have that. but he didn't want to seem rude so he nodded his head, assuming hyunjin saw it under the dim lights as the male began walking towards the stage.

the older jumped onto the stage and smiled at jeongin, the younger quickly turned the other way, avoiding eye contact at all costs. jeongin could hear hyunjin mumbling his lines to himself, getting all the emotions just right.

jeongin gulped as he suddenly felt a rush of anxiety and nervousness. he just stood there staring at the script in his hands, not even reading it anymore. he wouldn't ever admit it but jeongin did have a small little crush on hyunjin. and the possibility of him messing up in front of the older made him what to throw himself off a cliff. jeongin hadn't noticed that hyunjin stopped reading over his lines and walked up to him from behind, startling jeongin when he felt a tap on his shoulder.

"hey jeongin, could you help me with my lines? i'm having a little trouble." hyunjin gave him a small smile and tilted his head a bit to the right. jeongin stared at him for a bit before nodding slowly. he didn't want to but he couldn't bring himself to say no either. "great! i can't seem to get the confessing scene right — the one on page 17." jeongin flipped through the pages quickly and read through the scene quickly. it was when his character confesses to hyunjin's. "if you could go through your lines as if it was the actual play, just so we could really get the feel of the scene you know?" jeongin read through his line quickly, knowing it quite well as he often went through the script in his spare time. "i'll try" "okay, 3,2,1, action!"

"hey taehyun! why did you want to meet here?"

"oh, you're here already... did you have to wait long?"

"nah, i just got here."

"oh that's good... um i wanted to meet up cause i had something to tell you.."

"oh nice! what is it?"

"okay, before i tell you i hope it doesn't ruin our friendship or how you look at me."

"nothing could change that! we've been best friends since like first grade, i know you better that anyone, maybe even better than you!"

"right..."

"you seem a bit off today, is something wrong?"

"haha... i'm just having trouble finding the right words to tell you — you know, the thing."

"just spit it out! i'm sure it can't be that bad!"

"right right... so basically throughout the years, you've always been there for me and i really appreciate that so i hope we continue to be so after this..."

"oh my god taehyun, stop beating around the bush and spill it!!"

"sorry.. this is a little weird for me because i have never felt this way but... yihoon i think i like you.."

"what was the last part? i couldn't really hear it?"

"um..."

"oh don't get all nervous again! cmon just say it!"

"fine... i like you yihoon. i like you a lot. and not in a friends kind of way, in a way that i shouldn't like you. and it pains me that i feel this way because i know that you don't feel the same way, because i see the way you look at jiwoo. i can tell that you're in love with her, and no matter how much you deny it, i can see it in the way you look at her, the way you treat her. i wish so badly that you would look at me like that, look at me as more than your best friend. but no matter how much it pains me all i want is for you to be happy-"

"okay let's pause for a sec. yo jeongin are you okay?" jeongin stopped and stood up straight again and brought his hands up to touch his face and sure enough there were tears falling. he quickly wiped them away, starting to feel embarrassed under hyunjin's gaze. "yeah, i'm fine... got way too caught up in the scene i guess." he laughs nervously to try to clear up the tension that was slowly but surely building up.

but in reality he knew it was because he knew why he got his role on the spot, he knew it was because he didn't exatcly have to act out his part because he was taehyun in real life. he knew that no way would hyunjin see him more than a friend.
