"Cut! Cut! Valentina! This is not right! We are selling fantasy, and this...this isn't sexy!" My Mom declared clearly irritated before sighing as I sat in this cold tub of water as the directors and crew began to scatter around
Sometimes I wondered what truly went through my Mother's head because how could she not see that this wasn't a video that should be sexy? The song represents the struggles I face with her and Collin.
I mean, the opening verse clearly states, 'You can taste the dishonesty. It's all over your breath as you pass it off so cavalier. But even that's a test. Constantly aware of it all. My lonely ear pressed against the walls of your world'
The only reason she even allowed the song to get this far- thank God- was due to a much higher say-so than her, my label. She was furious when she found out I went behind her back to write, record, and produce the song as well as present it to my label on my own.
But, I knew she'd feel too guilty and would never approve of the song so as a nod to the personal cries I could rarely release, I let my song cry.
My label loved it though. They wanted me to move into the more sentimental songs and take a slight step back from Pop for a moment, which I had absolutely no problem with. I always loved writing about the fun life had to offer or something that gave my fans something to bop their head to, but I also loved writing about the struggles life had to offer as well.
Ryder then looked at me with a small smile that I returned before turning away feeling a slight tremble tingle throughout my body.
I had been shooting my solo scenes -this one in particular- for hours for the music video and because my Mother wasn't fond of the song, she had been making the process longer than it had to be all day; so much that even the crew had become visibly irritated with her.
