Chapter 2

~Hold Me In Your Arms~

"You honestly crack me up." Jay said laughing as Alyssa sat on the park bench arms folded across her chest.

She pouted, "How is this funny?!"

He slid off the top of the jungle gym and walked towards her. "It's funny because you want to get up there with me but you won't let me help you." He explained.

She rolled her eyes, he could be so dumb. "Obviously it's because I'm scared." She said dropping her eyes after she spoke.

He sat down beside her, "Lyss, this is me, Jaybird, I won't let you get hurt." He said touching her knee softly.

There it was again, that fluttery feeling in her heart. She had no idea, but he felt something too. It scared her that she felt that way around him. It scared him too, but he didn't move away from her. This is Jaybird, your best friend's boyfriend, she scolded herself. She slid away and sighed, "Why don't we just go? We both know I'm not getting up there."

He chuckled slightly, "Well yeah, but it doesn't hurt to try. Besides, there's nothing else to do. Carrie is taking that AP Chem lab all freaking day today."

He thought about the class angrily. Yet another class, yet another day that she spent doing schoolwork and not with him.

Alyssa noticed the upset look on his face and tried to get him to smile. "Fine, we dont have to go home, but can we please go somewhere else? It's no fun at the park when you're too afraid of the jungle gym."

He cracked a smile, "How about we call up some friends and go to that small go kart place down the street?"

Alyssa's eyes lit up, "Yes! Let's do it! I'll call Tom and Max. You call Siva and Nathan. Tell them to bring the girls."

He nodded as he pulled out his phone and began dialing Nathan. Alyssa did the same, except she was calling Tom.

Tom, Nathan, Jay, Siva, Max, Alyssa, Carrie, Michelle, Nareesha, Kelsey, and Savannah had all gone to high school together. They were the closest group of friends that you would ever find and somehow, they were all accepted to the same college. Probably because they had all helped each other with the applications, SATs and other tests.

Moments later, they were both off of the phone and smiling. "Everyone is in... Except for Carrie of course." Jay finished with a frown.

Alyssa smiled, "It's all good, we can have fun without Care." She said taking his hand and pulling him to his feet. They walked to his car, both of them pushing the tingling feeling as far out of their minds as possible.

"Are you guys ready to lose?!" Alyssa yelled over the engines to the group behind her. Jay and Nathan both cracked up, there was no way that they would lose.

The guy working the go-karts stood off to the side before counting it down. When he got to one, Alyssa sped off with a huge grin on her face.

The track was simple, it went around in an oval shape, but it was the greasiest track out there. It was so slick, you really had to be careful when you hit the curves or else you would spin out.

As Alyssa hit the first curve she let up on the gas slightly and turned hard. Her kart slid a bit but then her foot was firmly on the gas again and she was off down the middle of the track.

Out of the corner of her eye she saw a kart picking up speed trying to pass her on the inside. She glanced back momentarily and saw the big grin on Jay's face. She laughed loudly before slowing down just enough so that at the curve his front tires were in line with her back tires. She let up on the gas and barely grazed his cart with hers. He still had his foot firmly pressed on the gas so he slammed into the side wall and spun out as she flew off past him. She glanced back again and laughed as she caught Jay's determined look and Nathan and Savannah passing him laughing their heads off.
