Rhaenyra had not been born a son, like her Father had wanted her to be, but a daughter, crafted in the image of her Mother. And for fifteen years, she suffered with the knowledge of what her now Kingly Father so desperately craved for. What he had killed her Mother — his own wife, Queen Aemma — for. Child after child, only to lose everything in the end.

But Rhaenyra's first child was perhaps the son she would of been had her Mother and Father had a boy instead of her. Birthed during a night some whispered the dragons had grew distressed with wings eager to have them disappear into the skies, Prince Monterys was everything his Mother was. Her eyes, her fire. Her image.

( More sons would come after Monterys, but none would be like him. )

King Viserys had re-married, choosing a second wife in the form of Rhaenyra's childhood companion Alicent Hightower, bore three children by her at the time of Monterys' entrance. But the first of the next era of House Targaryen proved itself to shine in the cradle of Rhaenyra's heir, the dark hatchling wrapping itself around the new-born Monterys.

The Prince Monterys was born to die by his dragon, and his Northstar sword, born heir to the Iron Throne — his parent's fought tooth and nail and coated themselves in blood for that damned chair — and end a reign as King. Something that bore heavy, a title he did not want, but honour and duty in the name of his Mother and himself was hard to walk away from, and he never does.

It was his Mother's birthright. The King's heir. The King's first child.

Yet, those that shared blood stole it. When his Grandfather's life closes, the Young King passing like the Old, and the Throne being usurped, the black council and it's Queen had no choice but to engage in a fight. In a war they did their best to prevent.

Until the slaughter of the sweet young Lucerys Velaryon, by the hand of Aemond Targaryen, all but throws them all into what many would call the Dance of the Dragons.

How Monterys came to love non other than Cregan Stark, the greatest man in the North. And how, in the end, Monterys dies his Mother's fiercest warrior.

NOTE

this is being edited. i do apologise for all those who will be confused, but i promise to get the chapters back by one-by-one very quickly. it will still be up on ao3 until the edited version is finished and i change it on there as well.

please do not steal my fic or the ideas/oc's. i do have this problem quite a lot, but please stop. it is a male x male fic, quite a slowburn, but it will eventually boom. it's from the show, but there are book references. given this is set within house of the dragon, obvious incest warnings for canon characters, as well as sexual assault, gore, language, death, and everything else. lemme know your thoughts!!
