Joan’s pov
Constellation was unusually busy today. The lower part of the eatery is filled up and the upper part is brimming with reservations. My legs were killing me already. This heel is a curse. The place was bustling with rich people mostly. As people were going out, others were coming in. it has always been like this here.
“Okay everyone, gather round” the manager the people around together.
“We are having very big guests today. You all need to be on your best behaviors. And no mistakes, they are coming in by one pm. They are using the whole of the lunch room, so you should not let any other person in. They are seven in number, two of you will serve them.” She looked around for a while, we were just five that were with her presently. “Eloise and Joan, you are in charge” she said and turned, then matched off.
Thank God. I was paired with someone that at least got along with me. I gave a knowing smile to Eloise and smirked back. I quickly walked into the store room, after the manager.
“Hey Del, can I change my shoes into lowers?” I asked her.
She stared at my feet for a few seconds then nodded and continued what she was doing.
“Thanks” I smiled at her gently. She nodded stiffly and continued her inspection. She was so cold, but also an easy- going woman. I quickly changed into my lowers, fixed my hair a bit, used wipes on my face and straightened my cloth. I dashed out when I saw that it was almost one, went upstairs to the lunch room only to meet Eloise already waiting by the door. The lady is so pretty.
“Hey. You really took your time” she said and chuckled softly.
“Is it that obvious?” I asked wide-eyed.
“Nope, I was only teasing you, besides you are pretty no matter how you look.”
“Oh please. I just wanted to make a right impression and all” I muttered.
“Alright. Our guests should be here any minute from now” she glanced at the watch on her hand.
“Okay” I rubbed my palms together.
What is the point of the cleaning up anyway? Two minutes later. The stomping of shoes was heard coming towards our direction. I looked up and checked our guests before they got close. God! Not these rich snobs again. Chase Andrews, his son Roman Andrews and this plastic barbie and I am guessing that is his daughter. This is obviously a business meeting.
“Not that girl again” Eloise said under her fake smile.
“Have you seen her before?” I asked under my breath.
“Yea. She has been here a couple of times. She is so rude and bratty. She poured peach on a waiter some months back because her meal was delayed”
“Oh, so she was the one?” how come I have never seen her before? Well, I don’t exactly work full time.
“I know the reason she frequents this place is because she hopes to…” she couldn’t finish her statement before they got to us. “Good afternoon. Welcome to Constellation. This way please.” She said in an unusually bubbly voice.
I almost laughed at the utter fakeness of this. Four people has arrived, so we are left with only three people. I gave Eloise cue that I was going to wait behind to get the remaining to the room.
I stood again for like ten minutes, before I felt the presence of people around. I looked up with a bright smile on my face to do this as soon as I can and get on with work. Immediately I saw who it was, I froze. Like I literally froze. It was him. God please I don’t want to mess this up. I willed myself to move and tried as much as possible to compose myself. You can do this, I chanted in my head.
