He spent weeks in the Sanctum, he lived in one of the rooms in one of the housing units among many others. Whilst they were all older than him and he tried to keep to himself to not change the timeline too much, he got along with everyone quite well. They teased him about his age, but it was all in good fun and some nights they would drag him out of the library, not without protest, and forced him into spending community nights with them. It was fun, they didn't question his right to be there because they knew that he was smart, that he was studying hard and that, even though he was young, he was no less than them. The two people closest to his age were Penelope and Paco who were 25 and 26 respectively. They didn't press him for information once he explained he had no answers for them and it was nice to have friends.
He sent annotated PDF files to Hank and received further annotated ones in return, sometimes they exchanged brief niceties in the emails, checking in on one another, though it was kept to a minimum amount. Loki never reached out and neither did Wade, which surprised Peter- why was him needing to learn how to control an infinity stone so terrible? Loki of all people should know it was dangerous, Thanos was a good example, so maybe Loki didn't like being reminded of him.
That Wade didn't message him hurt just a little, it saddened him- he had been under the impression to have made a genuine friend in Wade and his random texts always made Peter's days brighter.
He devoured book after book, not even thinking about starting to train with the sling rings. He needed to quench his thirst for knowledge first so he could maybe focus on them, but the more he read the more questions he had. His understanding of contemporary physics was completely thrown off and rewritten into something new, something different. Something mystical.
He didn't want to accept some of the accounts of what had actually happened. Of what was the reality he lived in. That the big bang had not created the infinity stones, but rather that Nemesis had been there first. Had attempted to create life, had failed. That the being ended their own life, creating the big bang and infinity stones as a result.
It seemed mad, it seemed insane. And yet it gave more answers than Peter had found in physics. Fuck even Asgard was real, so this had to be too, it fit into the contemporary understanding of the big bang, and laying them atop one another the missing puzzle pieces within physics were filled by this theory.
He felt as though his head was steaming as though he was in a cartoon. In exhaustion he let his head drop onto the table and let out a groan of frustration. He hadn't even started reading about the soul stone itself and his brain was already overflowing with new questions he needed to answer. Hell he needed to study using the sling rings but his brain worked with science and reason and opening portals by drawing circles with your fingers was not exactly scientific.
"Head up Pete" Penelope said encouragingly and offered him a small smile "We've all been there" whilst he doubted it, he appreciated her regardless.
"Thanks" he muttered before closing the book and placing it on the pile of books he had read.
Next was a book solely dedicated to the infinity stones which was the first step in the necessary and right direction.
The book looked well cared for, despite looking as though it could fall apart at a moment's notice. Pages were yellowing around the edges and it smelled oh so distinctly of just libraries and old scriptures- Gemstones were softly let into the cover page and gleaned beneath the light of the desk lamp. "infinitae virtutis gemmis" the infinite power gems. His Latin wasn't the best but he understood a fair share. Wong had assured him that the Latin or Greek, or otherwise foreign titles shouldn't scare him too much as most books were at the very least translated into English by one of the residents at some point or another.
