The Fall of Britannia (Lelouch X fem! reader)

Authors Note: this is a medieval type royal AU, were Y/N is a princess in Japan. I don't know if it's clear in the fic but they are NOT related. Y/N is part of the royal family of Japan, while Lelouch is Britannian, there is no relation between them. obviously it's an alternate universe, and not based off this world so it will not be accurate to the real world. I'm kind of bad at writing political, war type stuff, so naturally I picked an AU that revolved around it, like an idiot. apologies if that stuff doesn't make much sense, but I hope you enjoy!  also, I will probably also be writing some Suzaku X reader in these oneshots because I'm in love with him. be prepared for lots of soulmate AU's in the future because i'm obsessed with them. 

Hiding behind a tall patch of rose bushes, ones you planted yourself years ago and raised from seedlings, you peaked between the stems to make sure nobody was approaching you. There was a special spot in the royal garden, a little expanse of grass tucked between the corner of the hedges bordering the garden, and a stone wall of the castle, with rose bushes covering the little uncovered space there was. There were only two ways into the secret space, either through the rose bushes, which wouldn't work since they were far too thick to go through and far too large to go over; or through the hedge, which was much easier if you were willing to twist and squirm a little bit.

The space wasn't very large or comfortable, but it was very pretty to you. petals from the massive cherry tree growing behind the hedge often dropped into it, layering the grass 'floor' with them and possibly landing in your hair. It was only spacious enough for two people, and even then they'd have to be sitting awfully close together without any room to extend their legs.

But still, despite it being rather grubby and cramped, it was your safe haven. The only place in the world where you weren't a princess, or future queen, only yourself. You often ran away there whenever you could, to read or draw or just be alone with your thoughts. Other times you would meet him there, tucked away together covered by greenery.

You treasured every moment with him, every stolen glance when you passed each other in the palace, and every secret kiss or touch. Lelouch was a busy man, and it wasn't easy to find time where both of you were free enough to get any significant time alone together, but still you managed.

"That fiancee of yours really is dull." Lelouch sighed, so light it almost sounded like a laugh. "Doesn't even realize one of his closest subordinates is one of the people he's trying desperately to fight against. He's so honest I almost feel bad deceiving him."

"Oh hush, don't insult Suzaku. He's my fiance just as much as he is your friend. He's naive is all, he can't help that the world has been good enough to him to allow him to be. This country has yet to be in a war during his time as captain of the guard, he doesn't know what to expect. besides, you are no small opponent Lelouch." you remind the man, allowing him to play with your hair as your head rests against his chest. Though you had no romantic feelings towards your future husband, you had always been a close friend of his since childhood. He always played with you when there was nobody else willing to do so, and as you got older the two of you did everything together, and he even found time for you now despite being so busy as Knight of Honor.

At first you weren't so opposed to marrying Suzaku, he wasn't horrid to look at and he was a dear friend to you. Perhaps it won't be so bad, and many women have it much worse than I do, you would think. But then, you met Lelouch.

He was one of the guards at the palace, and Suzaku's right hand man. Of course, the two were fast friends, and your fiance introduced him to you rather quickly. "Remember to keep an eye out for her, she's always managing to get into some type of trouble or another." Suzaku had laughed, a hand placed gently around your waist while you introduced yourself to the new addition.
