POV- Third Person
~~~~~~~
Irene stabbed the tree with a sharp stone, as it fell she tossed the ore to the side. She grabbed vine and sturdy sticks, taking the stone again. Irene could hear her new friends making their way up. She swayed to see that the Avian with many scars and brown hair named, 'Duck' had already crafted a sword and pickaxe. The pure-blood human, Amy, was building a platform. Irene placed the stone and branches together in place, wrapping the vines around the minerals and began hacking at the tree.
Irene stabbed at the wood, finally getting them into smaller pieces. She made planks and than crafted a workbench. She stood, she walked over towards Amy and kneeled down.
Amy was marking something on the flat surface attached to a small pole,
"What are you writing. " Irene tried to read the strange symbols but couldn't understand. Amy looked up at the her, "Can you read English? " Amy paused, "You know, human words. " Irene blanked confused at these words, "What is English? Is it what humans use to communicate? "
"Duh, you really are from another realm. " remarked Duck, Irene felt her face heat up, "Amy, she can't read English. " Duck smirked, than her face broke as she began rolling on the floor, laughing.
"What is so funny about my knowledge, it isn't my fault I only learned to speak it. " Irene grimaced, she turned around walking away from the two, the laughter died slowly.Irene sat down in a meadow, over where a short boy with blonde hair and fair eyes was running around looking at black and white fatties, Irene had never had one before but she heard they tasted great.
"Hey, why are you chasing the fatties? " Irene asked, the boy stopped chasing the creature and looked at her, confused, as if she asked if she could sit on him, "You mean the cows? Because their cute, and I heard the bird lady wanted one as a pet. " He shouted, Irene smiled at him.
"Duck does seem like the type to own a creature like that. Hey kid, what's your name? " The little boy skipped his way to Irene, sitting in between her out stretched legs, he began fumbling with a as many flowers as he could find. "I'm Owen, I know your Irene because you introduced yourself earlier. I heard the Duck lady laughing at you, are your feelings hurt? " Irene was taken aback, she'd never been asked if she was hurt emotionally. She always asked, but was never.
"I'm fine, say. You know how to read right? " Owen nodded his head, "I'm half enderman, but my mother never taught me to read human. I can only read endarian. Can you teach me how to read and what the human animals are called? " Irene asked, Owen smiled brightly. He nodded vigorously, Irene smiled at him. She looked up to the sky, it was already the afternoon.Owen talked to her about all the animals he knew about as Irene made a boat. It would be small and just barely fit her but it would work till she could make a better one.
"Alright Owen, we can start moving a bit farther inland so we can get better resources. " Owen happily hopped into the boat, Irene squeezed in just barely. She turned to look at the island, Duck and Amy had already left. Already going on their own adventures to start their own vast civilizations.
Irene rowed, Owen sang, and they ventured. Winding past small streams and making it through narrow passage-ways. Owen enjoyed the ride while Irene scouted the area, they weren't far before the sky began to turn dark shades of purple, red, and orange. As the rowed Irene spotted a human village. "Owen, go up to the inns keeper and ask him for a room to stay, just for the night. Ask him what he will trader for one. " Irene instructed Owen as they pulled into the dock. Owen nodded and hopped out of the boat, he scurried to the inns keep and tugged gently on his robe. Irene watched as Owen made speak with the man, he was old, maybe in his early 70s and smiled at the small blonde boy. He followed the trail of Owens run and noticed Irene, she saw his face turn a sad worried expression.
He knelt down and whispered something to Owen and edged him to come back to the mutant. Owen ran back to Irene, huffing and puffing. "Irene.. he.. said.. we could stay! " He finally blurted out, Irene hid her surprise and smiled, climbing out of the boat. She held Owens hand and walked down towards the inn with him. She smiled and thanks the inns keeper.The room was lovely, full of human trinkets and books. There were two red beds on the left side of the room, a nightstand in between them. Owen smiled and jumped onto the bed, thanking the inns keep again Irene closed the door and walked over to a desk with a bookcase next to it on the right side of the room. She saw that on the desk was an empty brown backpack. It was big enough to hold weapons and other things. On top of it lay a white envelope with a blue wax seal.
Searching for a wax opener, she found one in the desk.
"Owen, sorry to make you get up but can you read this for me, " Irene asked turning and walking over to the unoccupied bed. Sitting down, Owen got up and sat next to Irene. Handing the now opened envelope, taking the note out, Owen read it aloud, "Dear Inn guest, I see you may not have anything to put your stuff in, as a honor from the inn, have this backpack to accompany you in your journeys.
Signed, the Inn Keeper
P.S. There are pajamas in the bag.
Irene stood up and grabbed the backpack, inside were three pairs of sleepwear, kids pajamas, women's and men's. "Owen, the man said there was a shower in that closed off room over there. " Irene said pointing to a door in the corner of the room next to the bookcase. Owen nodded and made his way inside, Irene listened as the shower turned on. She grabbed a glass potion from the back pocket of her overalls. Splashing it down on the ground by her feet, she watched as her skin became clean again.
After a few minutes, the water stopped and Owen came out dressed and looking fresh.
"Alright, you can sleep while I get dressed. " Irene said as they swapped place. Irene closed the door behind her and began undressing. The potion had cleaned her clothes, so she took them off. set them aside and replaced them with the sleepwear. Folding her and Owens' clothes she opened the door and smiled see the small boy fast asleep.
Setting the clothing on the table she walked over to the bed, holding up the covers and slipping under them. She looked up to the ceiling, eyes growing heavier and heavier. She felt sleep grasp her."Goodnight Owen.. "
