From the time I was 8 till maybe 8th grade, I had my heart set on Zave. He came home with Eli every Friday and stayed at our place through Saturday. I loved it because mom made Eli invite me to play with them. Of course, I always did! No matter the game, basketball, baseball, or nerf gun battle, I would play along too. This is how I got so competitive. I didn't ever stop to think if Xavier enjoyed this or not. But, I learned a lot about him this way. Zave is pretty easy going. He loves watching baseball, and wants to be a firefighter when he grows up. How heroic!? But, I also noticed that his hair was the perfect shade of brown in any light. Also, his smile sparkled. Well, I might have made that last one up, but that was how it looked to me.
I remember once when i was 9, he was 10, and Eli was 11. We played a nerf war, and Eli swore he could take both of us single handedly. So, I was on Xavier's team. Now, i would like to say I had done the following for the sake of the team, but really I had done it so he would like me. Eli pointed his gun straight at Zave and I just couldn't let him go out, so I ran as fast I could and leaped in front of Xavier. I took the nerf bullet. My team ended up winning, and I had a good reputation with Zave. But, we weren't friends really. We were "almost friends". Not in the friend zone but not in the stranger zone. I simply had my heart set on the boyfriend zone, and wouldn't take anything less than that. But, it's wasn't until maybe age 14 that I considered he really didn't like me that way.
