"Can you promise me you will actually go and meet him? He's a sweet guy Ave, Carter swears by him!" Hannah gushed on the phone as I sat at my vanity attempting to put myself together.
"I'm not the one who needs to promise to show up Han, might I remind you the last few of your dates stood me up?" I said knowing that this was the same argument she uses every single time she ropes me into this.
"Yeah but Car-" She started.
"Carter swears by him, I get it. I'm sure he's nice but that doesn't mean he won't find something better on his trip there" I offered getting off of the chair grabbing my jacket off the back of my wardrobe door."There isn't something better Avery" Hannah said sweetly, she was set on setting me up with someone.. No matter how many times I try to tell her that this is not something I need right now
5 months ago I got out of the most toxic relationship ever seen in this town. I didn't need to just straight back into the game, it certainly wasn't my idea. But Hannah met Carter and since then, she's been set of me finding my very own Carter. Someone who will love me unconditionally.I'm more then happy for her, I couldn't be even more happy. She's found her person, she's in love. I'm not going to take that away from her.. So I humour her.
No matter how much each date pushes me a little bit each time."this could be the one date that changes it all for you! He could be your person Ave!" Hannah chimed making me roll my eyes at her gently
"I love you Han and I love the outlook you have on this situation but the probability of him being my person is a one in a million" I answered
"And I personally do not like those odds" I mumbled hoping that she wouldn't hear it..--
After a long talk with Hannah on the way to the diner, my nerves on the subject were still in full swing.
I've been on what feels like a thousand of these and they do not get any easier.
There is always this overwhelming fear that he just might not show again. I have the upmost trust in Hannah that this is all for the best but I can't help but also wish that she would stop this. I don't have the heart to tell her to stop, but I wish she got the subtle hint that I hate this. The waitress here was already glaring daggers at me as the night started. I mean I couldn't blame her, what girl shows up on her own when he claims she is on a date. It's not the normal.
In an ideal world, well in an old fashioned world, the guy would come and pick the girl up on the doorstep with some sort of flowers in his hands. But that isn't the world we live in now a days.
Now a days, we are lucky if we even get a text back at a reasonable time, let alone asking for flowers.
That's unheard of.This diner was rather cute if I'm honest. It was a sweet first date spot. There was a group of boys who looked around my age in the corner of the room taking up two booths, there was an elderly couple just up from me who were smiling at each other like they were still head over heels in love.
You had a few men dotted around the breakfast bar of the dinner sitting by themselves.
Over all minus the waitress who seemed to have hated me from the moment I stepped in here, it's a nice place."You need to order in the next 5 minutes of I'm going to have to ask you to leave" She said coming over with my glass of water, her hand was perched on her hip with nothing but a look of disgust on her face.
"He'll be here soon" I hoped, but I really didn't know at all.
"5 minutes" Was all she said before walking away againI leant my head backwards against the booth bench as I sunk into a little deeper. It was happening again, I was being stood up. Just like I anticipated I would.. Just like I told Hannah I would.
But I gave it a shot..
And I missed evidently.By this point, the diner was a little more lively with what I can only assume are the locals, the regulars. Each of them offering me a glance as they passed me. Some looks were of confusion, others were of humour. I mean I can't blame them, I'm a laughing stock right now.
"Listen Avery, I really -" Hannah said the moment I answered her call. I've heard that line befoer
"You really thought it was different. I know Han, can I go now?" I asked.
I wasn't mad at Hannah, not even close. She isn't to blame right now, I was just tired, exhausted and did not want to hang around right now.
"Yeah you can, I'll call you in the morning okay? I don't think you want to talk tonight?" She asked offering me the option.
"I'll call you tomorrow" I nodded before we ended the call.I glanced around again to see the waitress tutting her teeth at me before heading over here. I knew this was the end of this date and I wasn't even going to give her the pleasure of kicking me out.
Now I know that I wasn't the typical customer but she didn't need to make this entire experience that much worse you know?
Imagine if roles were reversed, she would not have appreciated it.
But the moment she approached the table, I went to stand.. That's when everything changed/"Hey Babe, sorry I'm late. Traffic was a bitch" A voice said making me turn to see a tall brunette had just sunken down into the booth opposite where I stood smiling at me.
The Waitress stood there staring at him as confused as I was, but it was a small victory to see the look of disgust wiped off of her face.
"I'll give you two a few minutes to look over the menu" She said before excusing herself. What the hell was happening..
