The old halls stand cold in the night, the brick like a block of ice on Alyce's back. Light snoring coming from the several sleeping portraits scattered along the walls. Alyce's face is lit up with coloured light as the moon shines through the stained glass windows. She gazed out of the translucent window, eyes on the blockade of trees, like a growing shadow.
Footsteps announce the presence of Draco Malfoy. Who wanders in with his back stick-straight and shoulder back. That perfect pureblood posture.
"Nice to see you've finally arrived," Alyce complains.
"I had things to do," Draco replies snottily, not even sparing Alyce a glance.
"Wanking doesnt count," Alyce says flatly and takes pleasure in the way Draco's cheeks heat up in embarrassment.
"Have you been sat on your arse this whole time, or are you actually patrolling?" Draco sneers, grey eyes glaring at her.
"Look around, ferret boy,'' Alyce remarks, throwing out her arms at the empty corridors. "There's nothing to patrol."
"Would you like me to tell Professor Umbridge that you are going against her orders?" Draco smirks.
"Piss off, malfoy."
"I hear she's rather harsh with her punishments," he taunts.
"What's she gonna do? Bend me over her lap and hit me like a little kid, I've had worse."
Draco huffs, "try lines."
A disbelieving laugh escapes from Alyce, "lines, horrifying."
"With a special quill."
"Oh don't go on, I can't take it anymore," Alyce says, faking fear.
"It cuts into your hand, uses your blood as ink," Draco says with a cruel smile on his sharp face. "Get detention one too many times, you'll be scarred."
Alyce doesn't respond. Her mouth slightly open, eyebrows furrowed as takes in what he just said. The confusion in her eyes faded, turning to anger, her blue eyes as dark as the night sky. She pushes herself up from the ground, hand shaking from anger. "She's torturing them," she says slowly. "And you think it's funny?"
The smirk falls from Draco's face as if she slapped him. She wished she had
"Do you?" She repeats slowly, hand going into her pocket where she keeps her wand.
"Course," he says, the side of his mouth falling into the carefully crafted smirk once again, feigning confidence. "They get what's coming to them, maybe she'll go for mudbloods next."
She feels the throbbing in the fist before she realises what she's done. Draco's hand goes to his nose, grabbing it as he moans out in pain. Alyce can see the tendrils of red run through his fingers. She takes her wand from her pocket and points it at his jaw, digging in threateningly.
"Never say that word in front of me again," Alyce says, voice firm and authoritative, eyes flashing dangerously. "Do you understand?"
Draco snorts in disbelief, blood spitting from his mouth. "Do you understand?" She repeats, digging her alder wood wand into his jaw.
"Yes, let me go," Draco says pleadingly. She obliges, but shoves him into the stone wall slightly, which he slides down.
"You're just a coward, Malfoy." Alyce says simply. "A coward and a liar."
"Don't call me a liar," Draco croaks from his sitting position.
"Why? It's what you are. You lie to everyone," Alyce turns to him. "You lie to your friends, your family, even yourself. If you carry on you're going to go so far you can't turn back."
