Achilles had only one life, so they say

Achilles had only one life, so they say. But no one revealed his second to be Nico di Angelo.

Patroclus stole Achilles's armor, so they say. But no one revealed him to have promised them a lifetime and then some.

The Fates were cruel, so they say. But no one revealed them to be controlled by their king.

Nico was alone, so they say. But no one revealed his best friend that was in only one person.

He was unforgiving, so they say. But no one revealed his grief in losing all those whom he loved.

He was uncontrollable, unforgiving, cruel, so the Muses sang. He was Patroclus in another life, killed by Apollo. It only made sense that he feared heights and flames after that. He was feared by the fearful, admired by the admirers. He spoke softly though without fear nor anger, and he was dangerous beyond imagination. Some thought he was Achilles in his new life, in his second life millennia after his death. Many believed him to be born of the blood of the battlefield after a battle is unjustly won. But those few who knew... well, they knew that he was only forgotten by his family. His mother, a simple woman. His father, a king of kings. His brothers and sisters naught and not there. His life was unjust. The gods were cruel, though they always spoke clearly and without truth nor lie.

None knew of his love. His deep heart that loved too deeply and lost too much. His deep loving that would be his death, his destruction.

Few knew of his healer's nature, as he would saw off the shaft of an arrow to heal a man. Like he was in the war, he was no warrior. He was no warrior, but he was a healer. He would steal his boy's armor to save his life. But his boy wore no armor.

One knew that he sang...

Achilles, Achilles, Achilles come down!
Won't you get up off, get up off the roof?
You're scaring us and all of us, some of us love you!
Achilles, it's not much, but there's proof.
You crazy-assed cosmonaut, remember your virtue!
Redemption lies plainly in truth!
Just humor us, Achilles,
Achilles come down!
Won't you get up off, get up off the roof?

Achilles knew him all.

His Achilles knew everything.

Every thought that raced through his mind, every tic he had, every time he might fumble his speech.

But he was afraid... afraid to die in the same way he had before.
