Supper was delicious. Pa made some kind of mushroom and potato soup. It was definitely a good first meal in this new life. I say "new" loosely. It all stilo feels way too unreal. But theres such comfort in this magical world I wouldnt ever want to leave it. So you may imagine my worries about having to go back to sleep once the sun set.
"Right now, you should have everything you need for the night. I hope you've felt welcomed and comfortable Percy. We really have missed you", My father kissed my forehead and smiled. "I understand if it takes a while for you to get to bed, feel free to keep the candles lit as long as youre awake son". And he turned and shut the door. I was left not knowing quite what to do with myself. I barely know myself, let alone this room. I figured the best I can do for myself now is to rumage around the bedroom and just take everything in.
After I get more comfortable.
I went to the set of drawers that contained my clothes. I found a nice loose shirt I figured would be good to sleep in. Then, after digging a little more, a pair of green shorts made of the same material. I struggled pulling my wings through the holes of the shirt I was wearing. I begged not to hear the sound of ripping fabric. Lucky for me there was no ripping. I studied myself in the mirror once again. I had avoided looking at my body before I left. My chest was flat. There were scars, showing I had had some form of top surgery. My eyes flooded with tears as I wrapped my arms around myself.Once I was dressed again, I stretched. My wings stretched with me. I wiped the remaining tears from my face and felt my eyelids grow heavy. No way I'm tired right? not after sleeping for who knows how long. But the yawn that escaped my mouth told me otherwise. I didn't WANT to sleep. I was so scared of waking up and not being here anymore. "please...please dont let this be a dream", I prayed as I drifted off to sleep underneath the heavy quilted blanket.
"Percy!"
I rubbed my eyes and heart feet bounding towards my door. I sat up quickly and fell out of bed, once again forgetting the weight of my wings. My wings. I still had my wings. I'm still here! I wouldve leaped for joy if not for the knocking on my bedroom door. I reached for my father's cane for support as I crossed the room," Im coming Junie I'm coming!".
June let out an auditable sigh of relief when she heard my voice. "Oh Percy, I was convinced you wouldnt wake up again", She smiled. "Me too, kinda",I admitted. "That rabbit boy from the candy shop in at the door", She said. My eyes widened and my feathers puffed up. Leveret! I hobbled down the hall and to the front door, opening it. There he was, dressed in a brown button up and black trousers. "Youre here!", I greeted. "I said I would be", He deadpanned. "C-come inside! Father, my friend is here!", My Father popped his head out of the kitchen. "Oh goodmorning son, Hello young man, whats your name"
The lagamoph dug his paws into his pockets, "Leveret". "Well how nice to meet you", and then my father disappeared back into the kitchen. I turned to him,"What will we do?"
Leveret shrugged. "Wanna see my room?", I felt awkward. What were we going to do? "yeah okay", Leveret agreed.I opened my bedroom door. My bed was still a mess, as I hadn't made it yet. Still, the shorter boy walked in and looked around. He kicked off his shoes and relaxed on my bed. "So what's it like to sleep for 2 years", He spoke. I blushed. Two years? Has it really been that long? "I uh, I dont really know how to put it. I barely remember anything"
Leveret rolled his eyes and scoffed, "Youre real popular yknow, surprised your old friends haven't come to visit you yet"
That was weird. Unless, I don't have any friends to come visit...
Leveret sat up, "So are those things just for show or can you really fly". I thought for a moment. I should be able to fly, my father can. "I can fly", I puffed my chest to try and look cooler. Just don't ask to see it.
Leveret just nodded and crossed his legs before leaning back on his hands. "Why'd you wanna be friends so bad, hm? Got a thing for rabbits?", He smirked. Once again I blushed,"W-what? No, no no no, definitely not, I really just thought you looked super cool and, and I know know anyone so I figured maybe I could-or we could-",Leveret laughed,"Calm down birdie, don't hurt yourself I'm playing"
There was a knock at the door. I tried to smooth out the feathers on my wings before I answered it. "Yes?", I said shakily. It was my father. "Hey hun, Lunch is on the table. Does your friend want some?",He smiled and the wrinkles around his eyes became more prominent. I looked back at Leveret who shrugged. "Um...yes please, thank you we'll be right there", Pa nodded and shut the door again. I turned back to face the boy. He hummed, "youre awkward" My cheeks grew hot, "You are ridiculous! I just met you!". I tried not to yell. "Im just being friendly, trust me it was a joke Percy", He placed a paw on my back and my shoulders relaxed. "Lets go eat, eh?", He smiled. A little smile, but still a smile. Oh goodness..."So Leveret, tell us about yourself", My father said before he took a bite of his sandwich. The rabbit shuffled in his seat. "Uh...I live in town...there's not much to say really", He faked a cough. I took his hint and cough my dad's attention, "So we're still on for flying lessons pa? Leveret, you can watch if you want". I could tell he wanted to make some snarky remark but just raised an eyebrow, "Sure"
I cleaned my plate at the sink after Juno showed me how to use the weird pump thing. Then I met my father at the door, with the bunny boy close behind me. "Ready son?", my father asked. I nodded eagerly. We walked through the field until the cliffs were closer. Leveret sat himself down and put his head in his paws as he watched my father stretch out my wings and give small tips on how to hold myself. "Now watch me", Father flapped his wings and pulled his feet up and hovered in the air for a moment. Then he stretched his legs, lowered himself back down and landed softly in the grass. I gulped and my eyes darted back to Leveret, who was plucking the grass out of the ground and munching on it. "Now you", My father smiled.
Nervously I looked at my feet and shifted my weight onto my toes. This will come naturally to me wont it?
I stretched my wings out. I don't want to make a fool of myself.
My eyes tightened and I leaped up and flapped my wings as hard as I could...
"Open your eyes my boy!", My dad's voice sounded far away. I peaked and was shocked to see I had risen up a bit farther than what father had demonstrated. I yelped and my wings almost gave out. "Keep your composure son!", Father reminded me. I slowed my breath and fixed my posture and flapped my wings again. Before I knew it my father was in front of me cheering. "Atta boy Percy!", He smiled widely. I laughed with glee as my father flew in circles around me. I glanced down. Leveret was staring up at me, but turned away when we made eye contact. I smiled. I flew back and forth above him. My hair blew everywhere, I could feel the air on my skin as the loose cloth of my shirt flowed with me. Father lowered himself back to the ground and I did the same. I blew a gust of wind against Leveret and he rolled his eyes, a smile threatening the corner of his mouth.
"That concludes our lesson son, You've still got it", Father pat my back,"Be home when the sun sets okay? I love you"
"I love you too"
Then he flew upwards and back home. And Leveret and I were left alone. "You lied", He smirked. "What?" "You lied. You told me earlier you could fly", He chuckled. "We'll can't I?", I defended. "Well yeah, after your lesson" I crossed my arms and huffed," I just needed reminding is all" Leveret laughed. He had a very nice laugh. "Yknow what Percy? Youre alright", His eyes glinted. My heart sped up. Who is this guy!
