Lucinda sat nervously in her chair, fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. She had been waiting for this moment for weeks, and now that it was finally here, she couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and fear. She was about to come out to her best friend, Rose, as a lesbian.
Lucinda had known for a while that she was gay, but she had never had the courage to tell anyone. She had always been too scared of rejection, too scared of losing the people she cared about most. But now, as she sat across from Rose, she knew that she couldn't keep it inside any longer.
"Rose," Lucinda said, her voice shaking slightly. "There's something I need to tell you."
Rose looked up from her book, her eyes filled with concern. "What is it, Lucinda?"
Lucinda took a deep breath. "I'm gay," she said
For a moment, Rose just stared at her, her expression unreadable. But then, a smile spread across her face. " Yeah I know," she said.
Lucinda's jaw dropped. "You know?"
Rose nodded. "I've known for a while," she said. "I could tell by the way you looked at girls, the way you always talked about them. But I didn't want to say anything until you were ready to tell me."
Lucinda felt a surge of relief wash over her. Rose knew and she still wanted to be friends. She couldn't believe it.
"Thank you," she said, tears prickling.
Rose reached across the table and took her hand. "You don't have to thank me," she said. "I love you, no matter what."
Lucinda smiled, feeling her heart swell with love and gratitude. She knew that things would be different now, that there would be challenges ahead, but for the first time in her life, she felt like she had someone who truly accepted and loved her for who she was.
They talked for hours, about everything and anything, and when they parted ways that night, they hugged each other tightly and promised to always be there for each other.
From that day on, their friendship blossomed into a beautiful romance, they were each other's safe haven, a place where they could be their true selves and be loved for it.
