Loud, musical noises could be heard across the room, purple lights shined across, and students were dancing and playing around. It was the graduation party for J High, they had all finally achieved the goal of leaving the dark hellhole that was their student life, and were looking forward to adulthood, college, and independency. Daniel found himself sitting down at the furthest corner from the crowd, his hair was styled with his bangs hiding his forehead, wavy curls, and he was wearing a suit with a glittery tie. He did not really talk to anybody, or looked at anyone, to begin with, he was nervous, his heart was beating rapidly and without breaks, and there was only one reason: Jay was sharing the seat with him. He did not know how they ended up like this, but the other seemed to be as overwhelmed as he was because of the party. Daniel did not understand why he accepted to come, as far as he was aware, it was only going to be his small group, but the more other students heard about it, the more of them were willing to come; as for Jay, it was a mystery of why the blond was here, as far as Daniel knew Jay did not enjoy loud noises, his ears were sensible, any kind of loud sound would irritate him and give him a headache.
"So... Graduation huh?" Daniel said, chuckling awkwardly as he felt a sweat drop slowly traveling from his forehead to his chin, he was nervous, incredibly nervous. "You said you wanted to be a doctor, right Jay? Have you been accepted to any medical schools?" He wondered, attempting to make the situation at least a bit relaxing.
The blonde boy meanwhile just nodded, sipping from his glass quietly. Jay had always been mute, he usually used sign language to communicate his opinions and ideas, but most students within J High did not understand how to read it, so he had given up trying to make friends by his first year. That was at least until Daniel showed up as a transfer, the first person within that school to read sign language and understand the other boy and what he wished to communicate. To Jay this was a blessing from god itself, he immediately became attached to the other, as for the first time in so long he felt like he was being heard.
Then two boys sat in silence, not a word shared by either of them, as the darkness in the room would've made it hard for Daniel to be able to see the other's signs anyhow. It was like that for a while, yet neither of them was uncomfortable, on the contrary, they were comfortable enough with each other to sit like this, and it made both boys' hearts flutter with joy, that was enough to satisfy them both. The silence stayed for a bit longer than was until a classmate came forward, nobody else but Zack.
"Daniel! Jay! I have been looking for you guys everywhere gosh." Zack complained, Jay perking his head upwards and Daniel cackled softly, scratching his neck with a smile. "Anyways I did not come here to lecture you two." He continued, going towards his bag, a grin on his face as he reached inside, both Daniel and Jay were confused by the other's behavior. "Look at what I have!" Zack grinned, taking out a bottle of whiskey from his bag, Jay's mouth opened wide, and Daniel's eyes widened, reaching towards the other and hiding the bottle deep within the bag.
"Now what do you think you're doing!? You could get in serious trouble you know that right?" Daniel complained, clenching his teeth and saying it in a whispering tone, yet loud enough to be heard by Zack even with the loud music around them. Zack's surprised face from the other's sudden reply naturally turned into a grin, then into a laugh, wrapping his arm around Daniel's neck, laughing softly.
"God Daniel! You've always been so stuck up about the rules, haven't you? It's been three years and you're still as much of a pain in the ass as before!" Zack said grinning, shuffling around with Daniel, the other smelt like alcohol already, yet Daniel knew that Zack was a depressive drunk, so his acting like this was unnatural of him. Daniel just sighed and glanced at Jay, which was just dumbfounded by the entire interaction. "Let's play a drinking game together, Vasco won't do it, and I would never make Mira do such a thing, and we need two more players, so, you guys up?" Zack asked, Daniel genuinely questioned if the boy was serious. Just when he was going to deny the offer, he saw how Jay came forward, nodding with an optimistic look on his face. Daniel frowned in slight confusion, he never thought that Jay was the one to drink, and he was right, Jay while an ex-smoker, never enjoyed the taste of alcohol or the strange feeling of the strong flavor around his throat and nose. One could say that Jay just wanted to seem cool around Daniel.
