Aria’s POV:

I was confused. It was clear now that Damon didn’t kill my father, his aura would have changed if he did.

“Why did Stephan kill my dad?” I asked, but I was still ignored.

‘Stephan knows she coming of age now. I have to keep her safe. Whatever it takes.” Damon’s words echoed on the warm summer air. I wondered if the mortals on the street below could hear him.

“You? You keep my daughter safe? Are you insane?” mother growled through clenched teeth. “She’s my daughter! I’ll keep her safe!” My custody was being fought over?

“What about the arranged marriage?” Damon hissed.

“If Laura were here I still might agree for to wed my daughter.” my mom sighed rubbing her temples.

“My mother is dead!” Damon howled. So many emotions hung in the air around him I couldn’t identify what he felt. My mom’s eyes widened. “the arranged marriage between Aria and I went against everything my father wanted.” Damon paused, tears in his eyes. “Stephan killed my mother, his wife. And now he wants to marry Aria.”

Now they turned to me. I was a little flattered how everyone seemed to want me.

“I belong to nobody but myself.” I finally managed to say.

“Aria, love you aren’t even of age yet.” Damon sighed, wrapping his arm around my waist.

“ Right now I am standing on my balcony of my house in Utah, USA. Now correct me if I’m wrong but in America I am known as an adult. People I’m twenty!” I glowered at them pushing Damon’s arm away. His depression grew. They both were silent now.

“ I want to meet Stephan and I want to now!” I yelled at them stopping my foot, as if acting like a child would help me somehow.

“He killed your father!” my mother snarled at me, “you know the person you just gave a blood offering to.”

“ I know so I’ve heard. But why does he want me so bad?” I asked, “ I mean, Stephan shows some strict loyalty if he murdered two people in hopes to marry me.” I was highly curios, Maybe Stephan wasn’t as bad as Damon made him sound.

“ He wants to marry you to control your powers.” Damon hissed, his voice became softer when he said, “but I wouldn’t abuse you.” There was a faint blush on his cheeks. Why would Stephan want me for my powers if he already has a kingdom? I knew what they were talking about from what Draven has told me. But Damon and my mom didn’t know that I knew too.

“Powers?” I echoed the word, adding to my mock confusion. My mother nudged Damon.”

“She didn’t need to yet.” mother growled

“yes she did! Yelled Damon. And that started the bickering. I ignored them, leaving them on the balcony I retreated to my room. I sat on my bed and tried to see what I could do myself. The aura in the room changed and I felt the presence of Draven. I shut the door to the balcony and pulled the curtains closed. That’s when Draven appeared sitting on the bed. With his jet black hair and piercing green eyes.

“What should I do?” I sighed as I sat down next to him.

“Run away?” he suggested, his voice was calm and smooth as silk. We both knew it was a useless suggestion, but it calmed my nerves knowing that he cared about me. Also that he cared about what I wanted

I leaned in to kiss him. When our lips met, I felt a pull to him. I tangled my fingers in his hair. Warmth. I felt safe with him, loved. Then he dissolved into a mist just before the balcony door opened.

Left on my lap was a single white rose. I slipped it under my bed before anyone took notice.
