( A/N: This is my first time ever posting a fanfic on here so please be nice 🤗 )

The dorm room was cold and almost completely black, only a small source of light snuck through the gap of the curtains. The moonlight barely lit up one half of the dorm room, enough to faintly see the surrounding beds. And in their dorm, the Gryffindor boys all slept without a stir. All except one. Hushed whimpers punctured the silence, soft sobbing and the rustling of the mattress sheets coming from the ravenette boy, who went by the name Harry Potter. Tossed and tangled in his bedsheets, Harry was having a nightmare. It wasn't too long before the boy woke up, shooting up instantly and letting out shaky breaths. Warm tears travelled down his cheeks, and his pyjamas stuck to his skin. Harry couldn't escape the dreams. The same black shadow that chased him down the halls, the despair that clamped his vocal cords shut when he would try to scream for help, every night the gaping eye sockets of the monster cemented themselves in his memories once he woke. Harry had to find a way to cope with the nightmares, by sneaking out to the only place he found.

On a small hill, just outside the Quidditch field, stood a tall broad tree, branches channeling in all sorts of directions. The crimson Autumn leaves spread out pleasingly like a blanket for the tree.
The midnight breeze kissed his cheek as it blew by. Harry found the hidden oasis far enough outside the school's perimeter that no student ever wandered near the hill. The small refuge became the curtain between Harry and his nightmare. And Harry knew the risks of travelling outside school grounds, there were beasts and creatures unknown to him that could pounce on him at anytime as he sat under the tree. But consequences be damned when the real monsters were in his dreams. Curfew starts at 7pm. No later should students be awake or roaming the halls. If any student were to be caught outside dorm rooms past curfew, a big punishment was made. Hogwarts was very strict when it came to students' safety.  But because of a christmas gift that he was anonymously given a few years back, sneaking out was fairly easy.

He slowly slipped on his slippers, careful to not rouse any of his sleeping dorm mates. Harry grabbed his circular glasses from his bedside table and tiptoed out of the shared space, slowly closing the tall door behind him. He descended the main staircase, occasionally looking over his shoulder for any potential night owls. In the student lounge, under a chair just beside the fireplace sat a box. Harry lifted the lid, revealing a dark glittery cloak. Harry spun it around his shoulders and covered his head, making sure to conceal his large figure. Inside the cloak, the fabric and stitches began to twinkle, the magic rendering Harry completely invisible. Harry opened the door leading to the main staircases, the door creaking in agony as he pushed the formidable door open a mere centimetre. But somehow, nobody turned or stirred in their sleep. Harry sensed the coast was clear, descending even more stairways.

Thankfully, he made it to the base floor, and all the paintings overlooked Harry as he hid in his invisible cloak. Harry's breath catches in his throat, stoning his movements as Filch and his cat pass merely centimetres in front of him. Holding in his breath, staying still until they were far enough for him to exhale. Softly gasping to catch his breath, Harry continued his journey through the Hogwarts courtyard. The freezing night air immediately hit him, grabbing a little gasp from him in return. Harry clutched the cloak close to him, soon enough he was a few steps away from the hill. As he got closer to the tree, another figure came into view, and judging by the short, messy, side parted blonde hair and straight shouldered figure, it seemed to be another male. Harry rubs his eyes underneath his glasses, checking to make sure his vision is clear. Was he seeing things? He can't be imagining this person this late at night, nobody else knows of this spot. "Malfoy?- What are you doing here, and why aren't you asleep?" Harry's voice broke Draco out of whatever trance he was in, so badly he flinched, with his knees still tucked to his chest. Before registering who the perpetrator was, Draco's heart was ready to leap out of his chest until he recognized the circular rimmed glasses and stupid bolt scar. Even with his heart still racing, he spat out his usual annoying comebacks.
"Could ask you the exact same Pott-ah!" Draco barks but his pronunciation of Harry's last name had an unusual croak to it. Harry sensed something was off about his tone. Harry couldn't help but laugh at the way Draco pronounced his last name. Harry  took a seat within a hand width away, kicking his legs up in front of him.
"Touché." Harry grins.
The wind picked up and the moon slowly hid itself behind the clouds of the night; leaves fell from the branches above them and occasionally a leaf grazed the tops of their heads. Harry sits in comfortable silence next to Draco, but the blonde can't seem to keep still.
"You couldn't have picked another spot?.." Draco mumbled, words muffled by the fabric of his sleeves, arms resting atop his knees. He had shifted so he wasn't facing the same direction as Harry. Avoiding eye contact by all means. Harry raised a brow before responding, "for your information Malfoy. I come here often." Harry sighed, if all he was going to get out of this was to be treated like crap by someone he really wasn't on good terms with, then why bother being there. He'd rather have his panic attacks in the dorm room. In saying this, Harry kicked himself up before coming to a pause. Speechless and in complete shock. Faint sobs could be heard coming from the blonde. Muffled, but loud enough to hear. "..Draco?-" No response. He was too embarrassed. Not only because of his reason for crying. But embarrassed over who he was crying in front of. Draco's crying had deepened, causing him to choke back on tears a few times, leaving the other boy in disbelief, unsure on how to help. Although he knew he had to do something. Something quick. And so he did, positioning himself in front of Malfoy and hesitating before placing a hand on his shoulder. "Hey whoa.. Draco, are you okay?? What's the matter?-" Harry's change in name caused him to freeze up, looking up at the ravenette in shock, a tear visibly rolling down his cheek. Though this didn't last long, as Draco brushed off Harry's hand. "You wouldn't understand Potter.. Just- Leave me alone.." This response had obviously annoyed Harry as he took hold of Draco's cloak sleeve and pulled him close, only to lock him into a firm yet gentle hug. "If you need to get anything off your chest, please. I'll listen."

Draco's eyes were wide, debating whether or not he should return the hug or not. But, he was too late, Harry pulled off awkwardly, realizing what he was doing and sitting back in his original spot. Both were just as shocked at this gesture. The silence only killed Potter as he spoke up, "Sorry- Just thought you needed one.."

No response.

Harry cleared his throat. "Beautiful night isn't it?" He nervously laughed, trying to change the subject. But this only made Draco cringe. That sounded like something straight out of those horrible muggle 'romance' movies. Though, Harry wasn't wrong. The night sky was absolutely astonishing. The moon glowing a bright yellowish-white. Stars covering the night sky like a blanket. "Yeah.. I guess so-," Draco replied, wiping his tears with his cloak sleeve. His cheeks began to warm up as he was visibly blushing. His attention soon caught on how close their fingers were. Harry's pinky finger even brushes against Draco's every now and then. The blonde really wanted to intertwine their fingers.. Feel Harry's soft and slightly larger hand brush against his own, smaller and more slimmer hand. Yet, he knew very well that this was only some fantasy he was desperately needing to get rid of. The last thing his family needed was a gay son who was in love with the boy every known death eater, including the Dark Lord himself, wanted dead. Draco couldn't risk putting not only himself, but his family in danger. He couldn't do that to them.. Not to his mother..

Draco had snapped back from his thoughts, instantly pulling his hand away and pressing it against his cheek and over his mouth. Trying everything he could to not break down yet again. Before another tear could fall down his cheek, a figure had pressed themselves against him. Harry had fallen asleep, resting his head on Draco's shoulder. The recurring nightmares draining him and completely ruining his sleep schedule.

Blushing and unsure of what to do, Draco looked around his surroundings. It is completely silent, not a soul to be seen.. So- It would be okay if he allowed this?.. No one will see, right? Draco inhaled before exhaling, not understanding why he was about to do this but proceeding anyway. He lay his head gently on top of Harry's, soon falling asleep.

The two boys, Harry and Draco, found solace in each other's presence under the tree. Despite their differences and troubled past, they shared a moment of vulnerability and understanding. As they drifted off to sleep, their heads resting together, the weight of their worries seemed to momentarily fade away. Underneath the moonlit sky, they found comfort and a sense of peace in each other's company, if only for that brief moment in time.
