- If You Don't Woe Me by Now -
1x7

That night, Wednesday and Vada are heading to the Nightshades Library. Wednesday snaps twice as the statute moves to let the girls in.

Vada walks down the stairs, looking around quietly.

"Uncle Fester?" Wednesday asks as she walks down the stairs.

"Whose Uncle Fester?" Xavier asks in confusion, holding a book as he walks to put it away.

"What are you doing down here?" Wednesday asks.

"Since I'm an actual nightshade, I don't have to explain myself." He responds. "What's your excuse?"

"Research." Wednesday says.

"On the monster? I'll save you guys some time. There's nothing in here matching that thing." He says.

"Isn't that convenient?" Wednesday asks softly.

"You know what your problem is?"

"You don't know who your real friends are." Xavier crosses his arms and watches her.

Vada looks around for the book calmly, sighing.

"I've been on your side since day one. I literally saved your life. I believed your theories when nobody else did. What do I get in return? Nothing but suspicions and lies."

"You want honesty? Here it is. Every time the monster has attacked, you've been right there. Starting with Rowan, Outreach Day? You arrived just minutes after the monster disappeared yet you say you didn't see it."

"I didn't realize proximity was a crime." Xavier snaps.

"Then there's your drawing obsession." Wednesday turns. "You have drawn the monster dozens of times, yet you've never seen it or so you claim. You drew where it lived. Then when Eugene tried to investigate, you tried to kill him so he wouldn't spill your secret."

"You think I'd hurt Eugene?" Xavier asks in disbelief.

"Let's not forget your oh so convenient appearance after Tyler and Vada had been attacked at the Gates' mansion."

Vada looks at Xavier before looking down.

The boy steps closer to Wednesday. "If I am the monster, then why haven't I killed you?"

Vada notices his proximity to Wednesday and steps slightly beside her, eyes glowing red as a warning.

"You like me." Wednesday says simply.

Xavier looks at Vada before scoffing. He looks back at Wednesday and shakes his head. "What's to like?"

A thud sounds behind the girls as Xavier leaves. Wednesday turns. "How long have you been lurking?"

Fester chuckles. "Long enough to feel the tension between you two." He puts his hands together as bolts of energy zap.

"Show me the diary." Wednesday says simply and looks away.

Fester walks to a picture, pulling it down to reveal the safe. Thing climbs up and begins to crack the code on the safe, easily getting it open.
