before starting this story, there are few things about this story universe that i need to set straight
• this story is taking place ROUGHLY around season 7, after Emily comes back from Paris. there will be a few references to episodes in season 7 but it's not exact, and doesn't go along with the general season 7 plot
• Jack does exist and Haley is still dead, she was lowkey abusive to Hotch when they were married (you can fight me on this but Haley was not that great to Hotch, i'm pretty sure i've also seen that it was hinted that she was cannonly cheating on him in an early season, but i could be wrong)
• Beth does not exist
• Jessica still helps out with Jack
• JJ still has Henry with Will but after coming out as a lesbian to Will, they are just friends who co-parent, Will is chill with that
• Briar is the only one that knows that Emily is lesbian, and Will is the only one who knows about JJ
• yes, there is an age gap romance between my OC Briar (29yo) and Hotch (40yo). but likely if you're reading a Hotch fanfic you are into dilfs so i have a feeling most of y'all will be okay with it. if not then i'm not sure what to tell you, they are both consenting adults so get over yourself
• this story will be similar in content to a typical criminal minds episode, it will include; violence, mention of death and murder, mentions of sexual assault/rape, kidnapping, and mentions of past abuse. i will place trigger warnings at the top of any chapter containing this stuff but that will be almost every chapter so be aware
• this story will also contain smut, because why not. this is my first time writing a smutty story so please bare with me, and don't criticize me in the comments, i'm doing my best 😭
• i will not put warnings at the beginning of chapters for smut because that would ruin any surprises. if there are enough people who would like to skip reading the smutty sections, i can put together a separate list of chapters that contain smut so people can either enjoy the surprises and not read the chapter that reveals them, or you can read that chapter and skip them. but i will only do this if i get feedback that people want it!! so let me know
