I scrounge though the castles library. Trying to find this dungeon Julian spoke of.
A sickly thin being slides from around a bookshelf, giving me a start "Looking for the dungeons are we?" Their presence is unsettling, I stare in stunned silence for a minuet before it comes to me. I've met this person before. This is Valdemar.
I remember Julian telling me about his work with them.. maybe they could take you down there.
"Yes. I'm looking for evidence about Julian... Dr.Devoraks work."
" doctor... hmm doctor Devorak?" They say with a cat-like tilt if the head "oh wait, Doctor No. 069, yes, yes."
They straighten, a dangerous flint enters thier red eyes. "How wonderful, how delightful, I haven't taken anyone down there in ages. You simply must let me give you the full tour."
They lean forward Untill thier face is mearly inches from mine. I take a step back, and into the bookcase behind me.
They lean over me with their eyes never leaving mine.
I shudder as they reach just over my shoulder, gloves hand grazing my skin and pull on a book. A metallic click is heard and a bookcase slides to reveal a tunnel.Valdemar leans back with a smirk hidden by their mask. No doubt amused.
Masking the shiver down my spine I compose myself, trying to hide the heavy blush on my cheeks.
"I do so love it when guests are excited."
That comment causes me to freeze for a milesecond. And they slide around me to lead the way, Hands clasped together.
They stare me down as they pass. Red eyes glinting with sadistic amusement. Despite my my sense of foreboding, I gather my courage and follow. As we enter the secret passage. I stumble over the uneven floor, I can see Valdemar's chuckling outline in front of me. Hardly hiding their amusement.
"Ah," they say, words like an inky black snake cause me to startle, "you need light, don't you?" Valdemar reaches for a torch. And lights it before continuing further. Not waiting for me to keep up.
We continue, as the lift comes into view.
A dim red light sines from within. Valdemar pauses in front of it, running their gloves fingers along the plague. "Oh isn't this plague just an inspiring decorating choice? They were all so scared of it, the silly little ducklings." I watch valdemars face as the expression changes to one of pure excitement and malice "how terribly gullible they where"
I swallow hard on the lump forming in my throat. Choosing to say nothing I follow them into the cramped lift.
The metal rattles around us as the lift decends, I watch the wall pass as I can feel their eyes boring into me.
Valdemar snuffs the torch out. And I am plunged into darkness. I let out a fearful gasp before I can stifle it.After a minuet the lift comes to a jolting halt. A dim light shines from the door. "Quite a cozy ride. Come along, there's a lot to see" Valdemar speaks with a startling cheeriness. Locking the lift's door as I pass.
The hairs on my back of my neck stand and tingle as they approach my back. They lightly touch my back as they pass me, they briskly stroll along as they light the torches along the walls.
"So you have questions regarding Doctor No.069, do you?" They say, more like a statement than a question.
So many questions blur though my mind, I grab the first legible one. "What exactly did he do?"
"Oh, this and that" they say with a disinterested tone, "I didn't pay much mind to what he did. No more than the other doctors. As I recall, he did a lot of work with leeches. Thought blood was the key..."
At the end of the hallway a massive metal door looms above us.Valdemar shoves it open with a flourish. The room inside looks like a locker room. A few shelves with aprons and coats hanging from hooks.
Valdemar gently pushes me through, a cold hand pressing into my spine causing me to tense up.
Their excitement permeates the air."Now, Now" Valdemar speaks with a scarily cheery tone, "to get the proper experience, you must dress properly. Find yourself a coat."
