"It's finally here, the first day of high school! The first day of the rest of our lives!" Jace Mason yelled out excitedly to his friends as they walked up to the large building where their parents used to go to school.
"Dude, since when are you excited about school?" Daniel chuckled. "You suck at school."
"Yeah." Jace shrugged. "I'm still gonna suck at school, but imagine the parties! The school dances! After school basketball games! It's so cool!"
"You're so cute when you're excited." Alexandra giggled.
Jace pouted. "Don't tease me."
"I'm glad you're happy to be starting high school, J, but I'm not." Callie sighed. "This is where all good things go to die. Say goodbye now because after we enter this building, nothing will ever be the same."
"You're so gloomy, seriously." Alexandra stated. "Don't be so negative. I'm gonna join the cheer squad!" She grinned.
"Basketball for me!" Jace exclaimed, pointing to himself.
"I think I'll join the yearbook." Daniel shrugged. "Maybe a metal shop elective too! I wonder if I could fix cars here!"
Callie rolled her eyes. "I guess I'll sign up for a school journalist position."
"That's the spirit!" Alexandra swung her arm around Callie. "Look out, Degrassi! Here we come!" She cheered loudly.
Meanwhile, their parents were sitting around drinking and fretting about their kid's first day at Degrassi High School.
"Do you think they'll be okay?"
"Of course. High school wasn't that bad." Paige chuckled.
"El, they'll be fine." Marco said reassuringly. "Especially our Callie. After all, we raised her." He smiled proudly.
"Yeah, but her parents raised her for twelve years. We have no clue how that might have affected her."
"Hey, Jace is with her. He's been protective of her since the first day they met. I'm sure she'll be fine." Emma stated. "I'm more worried about Jace since he takes after his father, and everyone knows Spinner spent most of high school in the principal's office."
Spinner scoffed. "So did Jay."
Jay smirked. "Yeah, but I don't have to worry about Danny. He takes after his mother more."
Paige, Ellie, and Emma all snickered behind their glasses.
"Then you might have some trouble." Emma joked.
"Em!" Manny gasped. "I was not that bad!" She smacked her best friend lightly while chuckling.
Ellie scoffed. "I beg to differ."
"Yeah, sorry hun, but you fought with everyone at least once." Paige chimed in before Manny could respond.
"So did you!" Manny scoffed.
Paige shook her head. "No, no. I got into a few fights, here and there. You started fights."
"With everyone, including your best friend." Emma added.
"Okay, let's break this up before it turns into a fight." Jay put his arm around Manny. "We're supposed to be adults."
"Yeah, guys, we were talking about the kids, not how.. catty you all used to be with each other." Marco stated truthfully earning a glare from every female.
"I was never catty." Ellie huffed. "I was just a little on the pessimistic side."
Paige gave her a look. "Hun, call it whatever you want, but you were just as bitchy as the rest of us." She remarked.
Ellie scoffed with a slight chuckle. "No one was more bitchy than you, Paige."
Emma and Manny nodded their heads agreement.
Instead of taking offense to the comment, Paige smiled big with pride. "I know. That's why I was the Queen B." Paige chuckled then she took a sip from her glass. "No, but seriously, Heather Sinclair was the biggest bitch of all."
"Agreed." They all stated.
"Is it 3 o'clock yet?" Emma asked. "I feel like we've been talking long enough that the kids should be home by now."
"Babe, it's 12:30." Spinner told his wife as he poured a refill for Jay. "The kids are fine. They're probably having lunch."
"Yeah, nothing that bad ever happened at Degrassi." Marco said, then he flinched at the glares all four women shot at him. "Okay, a lot of bad stuff happened, but we made it through all that bad stuff, and if anything happens, our kids will make it through as well."
"Marco's right. Between the seven of us, we have all the bases covered." Jay stated. "Spin and I were actual bullies before we matured, so we know how to handle anyone who might mess with one of our kids." Jay grinned.
"Yeah." Spinner nodded. "A lot of bad shit happened over the years and some good shit too." He smiled at his wife of 15 years, and she smiled back. "So, whatever our kids go through, we can handle it." Emma leaned closer to him. "Even if they do something so stupid that they stop being friends for a while."
"Or question their sexuality?" Marco added with a shrug.
"Or join a lame gang and nearly get expelled?" Jay rolled his eyes at his own teenage antics. "Or -" He looked over at the women. "Get into a dumb catty girl fight over some dumb boy."
"Hey, we fought about more than dumb guys." Manny corrected her husband.
"Yeah." Emma agreed.
"That's not something to be proud of." Marco lectured.
"Oh, like you guys never got into a fight over a girl.. or whatever!" Manny snapped.
"We know they did." Paige stated.
"On that subject, does anyone know who the kids crushes are?" Emma asked.
The guys shrug.
"Should we?" Spin asked his wife.
"They already have crushes?" Jay chuckled. "They didn't even finish their first day. Unless their crushes are on each other." He laughed and took a gulp of his beer, but when he saw the look on Emma's face he lowered his glass. "No!"
Emma nodded. "I know who Jace likes at least. He has a crush on Callie."
Paige made a face. "Really? I thought he had a thing for Alexandra?"
"No. Daniel likes Alexandra." Manny said.
"Oh.. wow.. Alexandra likes Jace."
"Well, Callie likes Daniel last I knew."
"Daniel? Really? But she spends so much time with Jace?" Emma questioned.
"As a friend, I think." Ellie shrugged.
"Oh dear."
"This isn't gonna go well."
The guys just sat in their seats, sipping their drinks, feeling dumbfounded.
