Before Jimin could look up from his phone display, two muscular arms are wrapped around his waist, pulling him into a broad chest. Jimin’s hands automatically place themselves flat against the down jacket, surroundings forgotten. His muscles go rigid as he realizes what situation he’s currently in. Blinking, Jimin peers up, barely meeting Jungkook’s gaze before the latter gives him a peck on his forehead. His heart flutters as he instinctively closes his eyes and dwells in the moment. Somehow this feels right.
Too quickly though, he is pulled out of a bubble as Jungkook clears his throat and then lets go. “Sorry, there was a creepy guy checking you out.”
He is about to step away when Jimin grabs the hem of his leather jacket and pulls him back. "Wait. Don’t go."
Jungkook frowns, not quite understanding the meaning behind it.
“Can we maybe go somewhere more quiet to talk? I ehm- I want to tell you what I meant with my text messages and I want to talk about the presents.”
The tension that had built up in Jungkook turns into nervousness, a lump forms in his throat, which he tries to swallow. “Okay, let’s go to my apartment or ehm–if you feel uncomfortable with that, how about a coffee shop or the park?"
"No, is your apartment close?"
"Yes, just a few minutes away."
"Then lets go there. I trust you."
Jungkook can't help the small smile he gets from Jimin's words. “Okay.”
Together they cross the street in a tensed atmosphere and walk back the way Jungkook came. Only from their appearance can you tell that neither of them knows what to say or exactly how to behave. However, Jimin speaks up when they arrive at Jungkook's door.
“Thank you… For earlier, I mean.”
“No problem. I’m just glad that he left,” Jungkook says, relieved while opening the door, and eventually stepping into his apartment. He holds the door open until Jimin follows and hangs his jacket on a coat hook at the apartment entrance. “Welcome to my home, I guess. Do you want some water?”
“No, thanks.”
“Alright then.” Jungkook exhales and tries not to think about how awkward this situation is. “Let’s go to the living room.”
Jimin, on the other hand, can’t believe that he actually agreed to go to someone’s apartment he barely knows. What’s even funnier about it is him not feeling uncomfortable at all. He is grateful that Jungkook offered to go elsewhere even though Jimin decided it would be best to talk here and get to know him better.
“So?”
Jungkook sits down on the sofa and rests his elbows on his knees, eyes on Jimin who is pacing back and forth in front of him in the living room. He notices how Jimin nervously nibbles his lips and finds it difficult to make eye contact.
“Where do I start?” Jimin mumbles and asks himself rather than it being a question addressed to Jungkook. His eyebrows draw together thoughtfully, mouth opening and closing. Even though it feels like Jungkook will combust from anticipation he won’t pressure the other. Not when they finally are here and about to talk.
"Can you stop messing with my head?" Jimin's eyes widen almost immediately, realizing what he said. "No, wait-"
"What if I want to mess with your head and your heart?"
It's the serious expression on Jungkook's face that makes Jimin throw his head back in frustration and whining. "That's exactly what I mean. Jungkook I am not someone who really believes rumours but what I see with my own eyes. No one has given me public gifts. I never said I wouldn't give you a chance. I just want you to be honest with me. You leave me notes, flowers, and chocolate but you don't even look or speak to me in college. And-"
"What if I'm shy?"
"Huh?"
"I had this plan all worked out that I would give you little things, leave cute notes and court you and ask you out on Valentine's Day. The reason you don't see me looking at you is because I look away when you look." Jungkook sighs and now looks at his hands, cheeks turning pink. “You have this confidence build up when you walk around in school that makes me shy.”
“You had all this… What about this incident at college? I bumped into someone and you laughed.”
“Oh, God, you saw this?” Jimin nods, prompting Jungkook to continue. “Jimin, I wasn’t laughing at you. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I was chuckling about how adorable you were. Your glasses slipped off your nose and I wanted to help but didn’t know if you would even want that.”
“Then.. Why me?“
“Wasn’t my answer enough already? You’re so adorable, smart, pretty and kind. So what if I want to keep messing with your head and with your heart?”
“Jungkook!” Jimin gasps, realizing what Jungkook’s exact intention is, but before he can say more, Jungkook gets up and stands in front of him, peering down at his hands, and silently asking for Jimin’s permission to take them in his. The blonde nods and so Jungkook tenderly kisses the back of his hands after taking them into his own.
“I’m really serious about this. I really like you even if we’ve never officially talked to each other. Just looking from afar… I couldn't resist your charm and standing here now… it just confirms it.”
"Jungkook~" Jimin whines, cheeks turning pink from embarrassment. He wants to hide. No one has ever paid him such compliments.
"What~" Jungkook imitates him and receives a slap on his chest, chuckling as Jimin's cheeks turn even redder. "Did you at least like the presents?"
"Can I lie and say they didn't make my heart race faster?"
"Min, you are just too cute for your own good." Jungkook leans down, chuckling as he connects their foreheads, his eyes closing momentarily. "Does it mean you'll go on a date with me?"
He leans back, tongue swiping over his lip as he looks with a hopeful twinkle in his eyes at Jimin. Up close, he sees how soft his cheeks are, how plump his lips are or how the brown is mixed with black in his eyes. Jungkook decides then that he has to feel what his cheeks feel like. Therefore, he lifts one of his hands and places it gently on his cheek, fingers grazing slowly over his peach soft and round cheek. And Jimin doesn't seem to mind at all.
"Depends," Jimin mumbles and then adds, "Will you keep being like this? Will you reciprocate my glances in college?"
"Yes, and yes." Jungkook nods impatiently and sharply inhales, observing how Jimin's serious face expression morphs into a smiley and genuine facial expression.
"Then yes, Jeon Jungkook. Let's give this a chance. If this doesn't work out.."
"But it will, I want it to work out."
"Jungkookie, just because you want something to work out doesn't mean that it will work out."
"But you go on a date with me so what I wanted to work out," Jungkook's frown deepens, determined that it will work out in their favour. He really does want it and he'll show him that they can do it.
