ALAIYA
" '... and they both lived happily ever after. The end.' I wonder why they always have to end in a happy ending?" I asked as I quoted "happy ending" with my fingers. "What are you talking about?" Chris asked while flipping from his back to his stomach on my bed. "Ughh..." I pushed the book I was reading from my lap and onto the floor and hopped out of the bed. I don't know why, but for some reason I don't find "happy endings" very happy. In fact, they make me very angry. How are happy endings even relatable? Us people in real life never have a happy ending because endings lead to new beginnings, and new beginnings lead to new conflicts and obstacles we have to face.
"You know why." I rolled my eyes at Chris sarcastically. He knows me better than most people. To other people I'm just this nice girl who does a lot for her school. Like plan the school's Homecoming. Which is THIS FRIDAY. Oh God, but back to Chris, he's been my best friend since elementary school all the way 'til now as seniors in high school. We've told each other secrets that no one could ever imagine about each other. Now that I think about it, that is part of the reason why we've been friends so long, because we're scared that one of us will spill one of our secrets, but the other part is because Chris is an amazing person to be around.CHRIS
"You know why."
"Yes, I do know why," I said with a teasing smile. "...but I mean you never know what could happen. Maybe you'll end up with a happy ending." I shrugged my shoulders and smiled a malicious smile as I looked away knowing she was annoyed by what I said. "Tuh." She said as she rolled her eyes and bent down to pick up the book she threw on the floor.
Alaiya is my best friend in the whole entire world. She knows me like the back of my hand. Ever since the day she made me sit with her at lunch in the third grade, because I liked to sit alone, we've been inseparable. She was the first person I went to when I found out that I was gay... well I wouldn't say "found out" because I've always known, but when I accepted the fact that I was gay, she was the first person I told. Actually she's the only person that knows.
And it's not because I'm afraid to tell anyone else, it's just that I don't think I have to, but if someone asks then I'll tell them. As long as that someone is not a part of the football team, and I have my reasons for that.
"Ok you two, it's time to say goodnight." Alaiya's mom said while peeking her head through the cracked door, "Hey hunny, your father's here."
"Thank you." I got out of the bed and gathered my stuff, and started towards the door. "Goodnight Chris." Alaiya said while placing the book on her bookshelf. "Goodnight."
Alaiya's mom widened the door and created a path for me to walk and she stood at the door frame. As I got to the door frame she stopped me and patted my head as if I was a dog, and hugged me tight, "Goodnight Christopher."
"Yes ma'am you too." I responded. I walked to the front door and they followed behind. I always feel so loved every time I come over here. Not that I don't feel loved at home, but I just don't have that motherly figure that Mrs. Brown, Alaiya's mom, gives me because my mother died when I was very young. She doesn't know this but everything Mrs. Brown does to make me feel welcomed, really makes me happy and feel whole inside.
I opened the front door and saw my father in his truck sitting in the passenger side. I immediately got irritated because he knows how much I hate cars, especially driving them. I walked out of the door and headed straight to the car, preparing myself to... to... to DRIVE.ALAIYA
"You think he'll make it out the driveway?" My mom asked as she waved to Chris's dad with a smile. "I don't even think he'll make it in the car." We laughed as we watched a nervous Chris struggle to get in the car.
They finally left, after a few hiccups, and went on their way. My mom closed the door and locked it, then headed straight for the kitchen, "Dinner will be ready in forty-five minutes."
"Ok." I responded as I headed towards my room.
Dinner with the Brown's... maybe this time my father will actually be able to join us, his REAL family.
