"Are we really risking our life for a map?"
"Most definitely."
"It's the money for me."BOSTON, 10 YEARS AGO
"Nate! Come on! We-we got you," Sam assured as you both struggled on gripping Nate's arms tightly, preventing plunging his body to the 10 feet ground. "When did you become so heavy," you complained as the sweat from your forehead vanished from the night's cold wind. His dark brown swayed left and right from the cold wind, "Help! I'm falling!" Nate screamed as he looked below the ground, his legs still dangling in the air. You both started slowly pulling his arms from the black metal railing, his brother used both of his hands to hold up Nate's arm much more firmly.
"I got you. Come on," his brother shushed him as Nate's body was pulled back from the groundless air. "Oh my god," Nate shivered as his legs went wobbly on the balcony and he stepped inside the museum's room. "Keep it down. Hey," Sam snapped back his swirling panicking thoughts, "oh my God."
"What part of 'wait for me' did you not get? Both of you knuckleheads," Sam growled-whispered at the both of you as his aura went dark, his face turned dramatic from the room's lights. You and Nate eyed him with guilt, "I said, I'm coming with you," Nate confidently reasoned, "What he said," you chirped between the brother's tension.
"Okay, okay. We're looking for the Age of Explorers exhibit. So be quiet," Sam ordered us as we both compiled. "Bubble yum?" He offered us the pink candy, and Nate abruptly snatched it from his hand. "That's my last piece, let's split it," Sam raised his eyebrows at his little brother and was still eyeing the candy. Nate broke it in half so slowly and pretended to give it to him. Before Sam's hand reached it Nate shoved the candy to your cheek, gently poking it as you turned your head towards him and ate half of the candy.
Sam's mouth dropped as you saw a glimpse of his eye twitch and Nate dragged me away from his pouting brother, "hey- Punks" he scoffed as he trailed us. My eyes wandered to the detailed paintings inside the room, the three of us always had a shared interest in history. In my head, I wanted to keep one of the glamorous paintings, but what can a pickpocket really do? Surely you can't fit a painting into one's pocket.
"All right, smart guy. Who's this?" Sam flickered his lighter to show the man's face in the portrait with the bright tiny flames, the fire itself brought light to the dark room. "Too easy-" you quickly cut the cocky brother, "Ferdinand Magellan" you answered and smirked at the younger brother. "First guy to sail around the world," Nate added and glared at your smug face, clearly you answered it firsthand before him.
"Wrong. Magellan never made it all the way around, he just took the credit" Sam chuckled, scoffing at his brother's sentence, and blew his lighter off. Sam's eyes suddenly filled with bright sparkles, "holy shit. This is it," he exclaimed, averting his gaze towards a significant portrait, as he waltzed his way.
"What?" You and Nate glanced confusingly at each other, "shhh come here," Sam whispered and motioned his finger to come closer. An old map is framed firmly inside the glass-fitted frame, its colors give an authentic aura, so old yet so preserved well. "First map of the whole world," Sam's face turns to astonishment as you three gazed longingly at the map. "You know what Magellan was really looking for?" he asked, his fingers traveling through the glass to the map. "Gold. But he never made it home," he answered himself. "So all that gold, it's just gone?" Nate confusingly asked his big brother, his eyes still trailing the map.
"Whoa. Lost, not gone," Sam widened his eyes, shaking his finger towards him, "there's a difference." "If something's lost, it can be found. But lucky for us Nate, we got pirate blood in our veins," he continued as Nate smirked cheekily at the word pirate. "Descended from Sir Francis Drake himself, at least that was what mom and dad used to say," Sam sighed sadly at his mentions of their parents. "You know, sometimes I think they're out there somewhere. Like they're just lost," Nate murmured. "They're not lost. They're gone," Sam swallowed a pang of bitter guilt as the two brothers missed their parents.
