I woke up feeling like the undead. '5 more minutes' I shouted to my dad who was losing his patience trying to get me out of bed. 'Zain! If you don't get out of bed within the next 3 seconds, you can walk to school!' I hauled myself out of my mountain of a duvet and hobbled over to the bathroom shutting the door behind me. I did my usual morning routine as quick as lightning, cleverly avoiding a practical joke from my irresponsible older brother. Normally I would scoff down a heavy breakfast but today... today I just wasn't feeling hungry – not even a bit. So I skipped my cereal, loaded my bag with boring books and hopped in the car just as my dad was leaving. On the ride to school I texted my best friends: Sean and Layla; to see when they would get to school so I could plan my detour to Tesco accordingly.
I stepped out of the car, discreetly waved goodbye to my dad and started up the path. I stopped abruptly at the lamppost. Lewis and Daniel, the twin bullies, were eying me in their diamond encrusted, orange Lamborghini. No way could I get beat up today, I had to get to Geography class on time or else I'd have after school detention. Then I saw my safe haven: Mrs. Garner was by the gates keeping an eye out for trouble. If I could just get to her in time... Too late. I'd spent too much time thinking and stupidly let the twins sneak up behind me. I sprinted down the path just missing a deathly punch to the groin. Sean and Layla were smiling at me from the classroom. Their faces dropped when they saw the twins. Layla ran to the teacher who was too engrossed in his iPad to help. So they both could only wait in anxiety as I ran for my life. I blacked out after tripping over Daniel's sapphire blue trainer.
I woke up in the A&E ward of the hospital. I sat up and rubbed my throbbing head, examining the size of the bump. I expected to see a nurse checking a clipboard or something but there wasn't anyone. The lights were off. The other rooms were empty and left as if the patient was due to come back. I tried my phone – no signal. 'What could have happened?' I thought to myself. I wandered around the hospital checking each room. I kept thinking to myself "Everything will be OK. I'm just on a prank show.' I couldn't have known how wrong I was about that. A shadow of a clock loomed next to me – that must mean there is natural light. Finally, I found a fire exit and was welcomed by a warm summer breeze.
