The Chase

Chapter 1 - The Disappointment

      I ran, panting and out of breath. They were catching up. I saw the meeting ally me and Lily agreed on. I jumped on the ladder and climbed faster than ever. One of them grabbed my foot but I shook them off. Once at the top, I quickly put on my mask so the officers wouldn't see my face. One of the officers were on the rooftop with me.

      "Where you headed little lady?" the man said. He had to be in his mid-twentys. He had dark brown hair and light green eyes. He was well built, and with him sweating I could see his abs shining through his shirt.

      "Away from you, Plus I got things to do," I turned on my tracking watch knowing at one point I was going to have to move soon. "Now if you don't mind, I'm going to be on my way."

       I turned and ran. I jumped to another roof beside it and made it. I turned and taunted the officer to follow. He ran to jump, and I continued to run again. I jumped another roof and landed wrong on my foot. I jumped back up and the officer grabbed my hand and twisted it behind me.

      "Damn your fast," the man said.

      "You think that's fast? If anything, this is fast." I twisted my arm a bit more and threw him over my body with all my strength. I may have popped a socket, but I didn't care. I tapped my watch, "Hey! When are you getting here?!" I yelled into the watch. The man was starting to stand up.

       "Hey, sorry. Techs took too long. I'll come quickly. I can tell you moved, stall for me," that was my best friend, Lily.

       "So, you callin' for back up little lady?" The man was now standing. My fists shot up ready to fight. My left arm popped out of place, and a twisted ankle. Father is not going to be happy about this.

       "So how are you tonight officer?" I suck at stalling.

       "Better then someone with a broken arm." He threw a punch, and I blocked it with my left, and he knew what he was doing. He's smart... for a cop. I jumped back, he came at me again and I ducked. Quickly, while his back was exposed, I punched him hard on the spine. He fell hard. He seemed to be pasted out. I walked over to him; I felt his pulse making sure he was alive. I realized too late that it was trap. As I tried to jump away, he grabbed me and pinned me to the roof. He put both my had over my head and he went to take off my mask.  Right as he grabbed my mask he went flying to the side, due to someone kicking him. It was Lily.

       "Took you long enough Lil. Let's hurry before he sees us," I said. We went to leave but I turned my head. The officer was staring at me. We both kept the gaze till Lily called me down. I turned to leave.

       "Lily, when we get back you need to pop my arm back in place. I'll fix my limp," I said after a few mins and driving down the street. You know Father is going to kill me.

        "Mya! Your Father is an ass! Why do you care what he thinks? And don't say it's because you want him to be proud." Lily had a good argument against me. I did want to make him proud. But it was hardest for me.

         My older brother, Sam, has already proven himself to Father. Then Mini, the youngest of the Grovefields, isn't old enough to learn our skills. Being a spy for a living could get her hurt. Father, known as the most dangerous person of our country, fell in love with a farm girl while on a mission to bust the man that stole things from our company, also known as her father. Once she had Sam, she knew her life would change. She stayed with Father until she was captured and killed. I was seven, Sam was 11, and Mini was a few days shy of two. Ever since, Father has become mean. Sam is mostly like him, but he is nice to me and Mini.

         Once we got to the house a gave Lily my left arm as much as I could. "Pop it back into place. If you don't do it now Faher might be mad again."

         "He is always mad." She rolls her eyes but pops it back into place. I did my best not to scream because that really hurt.

        We went inside and Father was waiting for us with Sam beside him. "Successful?" he said with an annoyed voice.

        When I hesitated, he got angry. He threw a picture at me. It was the officer on top of me with my mask off. "He tackled me, nothing more. If you think that there's more then that's your fault."

         "Give me my prize and go to your room. Make sure Mini is ok in there." Sam walked to me when Father said that to take the diamonds. I gave them all to him, but he gave one back. 

         "Keep one. You might need it," he whispered. He gave me one back then turned to give it to Father. I walked to my room and told Lily to go to hers. I made sure Lily was asleep and then went to sleep myself. I had school in the morning.
