~DANIELLE THAIS SENNA~
Wednesday morning, the alarm went off and
reluctantly turned it off and sat on the bed. My hands immediately went to my face and washed my eyes. It was half past five in the morning and I was about to fly to Bahrain for the very first race in F1.Honestly, I didn't know what I was getting into and what was waiting for me, the only thing I knew was my team, teammate, my PR manager who is my trainer at the same time and my engineer. Charles and I got on very well during the testing and discovery of the formula and became quite close. So that was the only thing I could be sure of this season that it would work. In the formula testing, I didn't feel as strong as the formula, but that's about time and getting used to the new, faster and stronger car.
When I stopped thinking about what awaits me today and the entire following weekend, I went to the bathroom where I did everything necessary and packed the last things. In the room, I then checked whether I had all the things such as overalls, shoes and other things needed to be able to go to the race. When I found out that I had everything, I took both two suitcases and a backpack and carried them down the stairs. It was around five thirty and and I had to leave for the airport in half an hour.
I took something small to eat and a message appeared on my mobile phone from Charles.
I had quite a bit of time, so I sat on the couch and scrolled through social media to see what was new. There were posts like "Season 2023 is here ladies and gentleman" everywhere. At the moment, everything revolved around the start of the F1 season, fans are flocking to Bahrain to get the best seats in the stands or to buy tickets to the Paddock as VIPs. And stress and great pressure began to fall on the drivers. In bigger teams like Ferrari, Mercedes or Red Bull, there is an awful lot of pressure on the drivers and everyone expects an awful lot from them at the beginning of the season.
I was thinking about everything that could happen and how much I would have to fight to get to the best possible position in the race. There are big risks of everything, a crash, a collision or that I won't be able to keep the pace, after all there are much more experienced drivers like Lewis Hamilton or Daniel Ricciardo. It will be a huge pressure and I hope every single member of our strong team can handle it. I have high hopes for us, because through the testing we were all as one, and I hope that we can maintain this attitude throughout the season.
~20 hours later~
The plane landed at the airport in Bahrain and the captain informed us that we were in the right place and we could slowly leave the plane. The fatigue was there and I had to do something to keep my eyes open and not fall asleep.
I waited about 10 minutes for my two suitcases and then I looked around the area to see if I could see Charles somewhere. In less than a few seconds our eyes met and a smile appeared on Charles' face. I walked towards him and just before I reached Charles opened his arms and I happily gave him my hug.
"Hey" was heard and his voice flew past my ears
"Hey, shall we go?" I asked him and Charles bent down to pick up one of my suitcases and took it in his hand
"Of course" he let me go first and followed me
We got into his car and I immediately leaned my head against the backrest. Charles started up and drove slowly to the hotel. I tried not to fall asleep, but I was not very successful, but when Charles spoke I immediately woke up again.
"Sorry, I would let you sleep, but I need to tell you how tomorrow will be" he smiled at me and gave me a quick look
"Yes, of course, talk" I straightened up slightly on the seat and looked at Charles
"All our various interviews start at 10 in the morning, so that we should be in the paddock by 9am. You will have all these interviews Gabrielle by your side as your manager. We finish around 5 in the afternoon so it will be quite a demanding day and a lot of contact with people" he giggled and I looked ahead and wondered for a few moments on the road
"Yes, I kind of expected that," I laughed. "I just want to ask, will you also be nearby or will everyone have different interviews?" I waited for his answer, we stopped at traffic lights and his gaze was only on me
"I think I should be with you most of the time but it's possible that we'll be separated, why?" He smiled
"Well, I still feel uncomfortable among those people and I feel the most comfortable with you, so that's why I'm asking" I smiled and my eyes fell on his shoes
"Don't worry Dani, I'll be there" he patted my shoulder and started the car again as the light was green
"Thank you" I said and saw how he smiled
The ride to the hotel took another 30 minutes and we drove in pleasant silence. The journey went by quite quickly and before I could catch my breath I was getting out of the car. I was already incredibly tired, everything started to come together and I was already looking forward to going to bed and sleep would take over all the power.
Charles took all my things and checked me in for me. He escorted me to the room and carried my things inside.
"Thank you Charlie" I sat on the bed and looked up at him
"It was a little thing, don't worry about it" he smiled "I live 3 rooms next door, so if you want me to pick you up for breakfast in the morning?" He raised one eyebrow and I smiled at that
"Sounds good, I'll be happy" the smile I now had on my face was one of the most sincere in recent times
"So at 8?"
"Yes" Charlie smiled at me and slowly started walking away
"Good night Dani"
"Good night" I managed to say before he closed the door and went to his room
I unpacked my things for sleeping and took a quick shower, then I set my alarm for 7:30 and within seconds, I was no longer aware of the world and everything around me became silent.
