The moonlight echoed through the night. Tasha insisted we wait till dusk to venture out. I stayed hiding in the old wooden house while she went out town to buy supplies.
"You really don't have to do this-" before I could finish my sentence she cut me off with a stern look.

"Please stop apologizing. I want to help, and besides getting out of this prison seems like a win-win to me!"
I admired her enthusiasm. Yet was frightened by it.

"We should head out now, it's getting dark, and we have to be able to make it too the doc as quickly as possible."
She nodded and grabbed her bag.
Leaving the house I notice Tasha looking back. Her hand shifted to mine and we stood in silence. Tasha eventually spoke.

"Everything I've ever known..learned, has been in this house." Her voice was soft,
I hugged her. Not knowing if I should trust this girl, I did. She is genuine and like me..hoping for better. Grabbing her hand we walked through the woods together, not knowing if we would make it, not even knowing each other, yet trusting each others word.

The night was cold.
"I've only got one sleeping bag, we're going to have to share" preparing for an uncomfortable night, I was still grateful. Laying the sleeping bag down, Tasha began to grab sticks to start a fire. I don't know much about starting fires, I've never learned how to...
Looking embarrassed, Tasha grabbed my hand and sat me down.
"Here" she handed me a sharp rock and some flint.
"Hold the flint steady with one hand and use the other to apply pressure"
After a few tries I finally got the fire to work, I was happy. I would have never thought I could do simple survival skills like this, none the less pick it up so quickly.

Tasha handed me half of a Turkey and cheese sandwich and some juice.
"So...why exactly are you leaving?"
I set my sandwich down, and crossed my legs. I didn't really prepare for a question like this, none the less so sudden.
"What exactly do you mean.." she could tell I was playing it off so she asked again.
"I mean come on, you are a princess with a beautiful castle with maids and crowns and balls and-"
I didn't wasn't to hear the rest, Tasha could tell by my expression the castle wasn't all sparkly jewels and balls. It was war, deceit,..murder.
"I won't ask. But just know I think your pretty brave. If we were to get caught...we would be prisoned. Even worse hanged for treason." She was right, by now mother should know of my disappearance. I'm not sure if it made the news, me and Tasha were already a few miles away from town.

Getting ready for bed, I lay down and try my best to give Tasha space. I played with my gold chained necklace and thought about the sun. The nights were always cold, beautiful but cold. Drifting to sleep I thought about tomorrow. If I'll make it to a place I can be free, away from the palace with my own home.
A home I can call mine.
