First Person pov:
Bright lights reflected off of the wet street, emitting from signs and nearby buildings as I made my way towards my destination. The sound of rain droplets splattering against my umbrella and against the store windows echoed into my ears. I open my phone and put on my AirPods.
Where am I going?
That remains a mystery to you as my walk was interrupted by my curiosity as people huddled around a street corner just a few feet away from me. Many people joined, even running towards them as others pulled out their phones.
As I made my way closer I heard gasps and whispers.
"It's happening again.."
"It has to be them.."
"Oh, that poor boy."
"Oh my god.."
"Someone has to help him.."
I heard a few even calling the cops as I got closer. Tilting my body over slightly, I looked around the corner to see a few men, I can only assume late teens or early twenties, beating up someone. An older lady laid her hand on my shoulder, pleading with me to help him.
I knew I was outnumbered. I was about to walk away when I got a clear look at that persons face. That boys face.
I turned into the alleyway, grabbing one of them by the collar before I swung. He fell to the floor, blood dripping from his nose. The other two looked up at me, giving me a smug look before turning around and taking their friend with them.
The boy was balled up on the ground, arms above his head.
He seemed to only be fourteen or fifteen, eighteen at the most.
That's when I knew what exactly was going on. I would've left if I hadn't know they weren't my guys. We don't get kids involved in anything.
Though I couldn't exactly tell the bystanders that.
I placed a hand on his arm and the other on his back, helping him get up.
He looked into my eyes but didn't say a word to me.
"Let me take you somewhere safe." I stated. He nodded shortly in response as he kept his arms around his waist.
I lead him back towards where I came from. It was only about a fifteen minute walk from there to my apartment.
From what I could see, they really targeted his ribs, though it was probably much worse than it looked. He tried to mask how much it really hurt but I could see it.
We walked into my apartment complex, taking the elevator as it seemed like the best option right now.
I unlocked the door, letting him inside before following him and closing the door behind me.
"You can go sit down, I'll get you some ice."
He complied as I opened the freezer, grabbing an ice pack and handing it to him.
The boy took the ice, laying it on his side before curling up in a ball again. I walked into the bathroom, grabbing some pain killers and going back to the couch. I made sure to get some water before handing it to him and sitting on the floor in front of him.
"So.. do you know why they attacked you?" I asked, unsure of if he was willing to talk or how to even start the conversation. "No.. I was just walking home when they jumped me." He hesitated before replying. He was clearly uncomfortable or scared but I needed all of the information I could get.
"Do you know them?" I pried. The boy nodded slowly, fumbling with his fingers.
Looking at him I could just see how sad he was. How hurt he felt.
As much as I wanted to know more, I couldn't ask anymore, I shouldn't.
"You can stay here tonight.. if you want. I can get you a blanket."
"Okay.." He spoke quietly, still clearly uncomfortable. Considering the fact that it was literally two AM, I placed a blanket next to him and gave him a short goodnight.
Turning around, I walked into my bedroom, closing the door and locking it. I pulled out my phone.
"Hey Seungmin, what's up? What's taking you so long to get here?" The voice from the other line answered.
"Hyung.. He's doing it again."
"What? No.. You're kidding.."
"I have a kid in my apartment who's not doing too well. It looks bad too. Like really bad."
"Fuck man. There's a bunch of tourists in town right now too. Means he's getting bolder.."
"He doesn't know them or what they want. They jumped him while he was walking home. Literally a few feet away from a bunch of people. I'm letting him stay here for the night, but I don't know what to do tomorrow. They're going to go after him again right? They think he'll talk or I'll talk."
"I'm so sorry. You can bring him here if you want.. I'm free tomorrow- Mostly. Perks of having a giant house provided by shitty parents who couldn't care less I guess."
"Thanks, I'll see about it tomorrow."
"Goodnight... call me if you need me."
"Night." I hung up.
As I stood there behind the door, small sniffles could be heard from the other side in the living room.
He was crying.Seven AM came very quickly. Sun rays shined through the blinds in my room, making the only time I have to be carefree end. I felt the sunlight reflecting off of my eyelashes, forcing me to get up. Raking my hair through my messy brown hair, I start remembering the events from earlier this morning. Guilt washes over me as I think about the poor boy I left alone in my living room. Crying.
Gathering some clothes from my closet I make my way to the bathroom, stripping from my pajamas and getting into the shower.
Fifteen minutes go by before I get dressed, washing my face with cold water after. Walking into the kitchen I notice the silence in the room. Absolute silence. I couldn't even hear any breathing. I walk over to the counter, peaking over the back of the couch.
Nothing.
The blanket laid flat on the couch.
No crying.
No breathing.
No boy.
He's allowed to leave though... I'm sure he can take care of himself.
Maybe I wished he would've said goodbye.
Maybe I wished he would've stayed longer.
Stayed for breakfast at least.
I couldn't help but feel some sort of guilt. I left him all alone while he was so vulnerable. I just let him cry by himself. Probably even cry himself to sleep.
Fuck I felt bad.
So bad.
Picking up my phone, I scroll through all of the missed messages I had from my friends. Though, I couldn't be bothered to reply to them. Instead I scrolled through my contacts."Hyunjin.. he's gone."
