As soon as Lana sat down in the passenger seat of Jasmine's tiny, silver car, her face lit up instantly. A playful grin spread across her lips. "First of all, you're a massive klutz. Although, I think we addressed that when you fell into and shattered the lamp last week." She put her finger up to signal she wasn't done talking, so she could finish her statement before her sister started to protest. "Second.... Someone has a crush." The younger girl added in a singsongy tone.
Jasmine didn't hesitate a moment to add her two cents into the conversation. "I absolutely do not have a crush." She retorted, adding air quotes around the term 'crush.' "I am a grown woman, not a middle schooler. I don't do crushes. Sure, she was quite attractive... but I know better than falling for everyone I meet. I don't have time for dating right now, let alone a relationship."
"I would definitely use the the term 'grown woman' loosely. Just saying." She playfully shrugged her shoulders. "Oh, so what do you call that little flirting scene you did in there? Not falling for a stranger?" Lana raised an eyebrow, tilting her head toward her older sister as she drove. She knew how this would turn out. Most likely how it always did. Her sister and this "Bosco" would go on a few dates and Jasmine would either be uninterested because this person didn't turn out to exactly fit ever single detail she made up about them in her head; or they'd be too perfect for each other, Jasmine would get scared, dump her, and blame it on not having enough time to focus on a relationship. It was quite unfortunate really. Jasmine was such a sweet person. She truly deserved love, but she kept running away from it.
"Ha. Ha. Very funny. Whatever you think you saw in there, didn't happen. You. Are. Delusional... Or maybe it's just youngest child syndrome. We know that regularly affects your brain's ability to think." The older blonde laughed, nudging her younger sister as she toyed with the radio. She finally decided on a 90s pop station while she pulled into the McDonald's drive-thru.
"What do you want?... Actually, I'll just get a little of everything." Jasmine asked before shooing away the question with a wave of her hand. After a quick reflection on her own question, she realized Jorgie, her roommate and best friend, always wanted something too when they picked up something to eat. As small as that girl's frame was, she sure could eat. On top of that, 99% of the time when Jorgie was home, that meant her girlfriend, Orion, would be there too. Considering Orion had her own place, she sure did spend a lot of time taking up space at theirs and eating their food. To avoid any complaints from anyone, Jasmine knew the smartest decision was to just buy enough food for all 4 of them.
One vanilla milkshake, two Diet Cokes, a Sprite, two 20 piece nuggets, 4 cheeseburgers, two baskets of fries, and one dirty look from the person running the register later, Jasmine had collected the greasy bags of food and put them on the back seat. She pulled out the tips she had made that night and started counting them out. She frowned, sighing softly as she realized she had hardly made enough to cover dinner. Sure, it was a large order, but still. She should be making a bit more than that, considering most of her salary was supposed to come from tips.
Lana chewed her lip as she watched her sister count out cash and then recount, as if she had made some kind of mistake. "Here... Do you need a little bit extra? Don't worry about it." She told her, pulling a 20 dollar bill from inside her phone case and holding it out in Jasmine's direction.
Jasmine frowned and pushed the money back in her sister's direction. "I'm not taking your money, Lane. You know I don't need it. I'm a grown adult." There was that 'grown adult' excuse again. It seemed to pop up anytime tensions were high and the older blonde was lying or trying really hard to convince someone of something. Jasmine fished around in her purse for a moment before pulling out her debit card and handing it to the person working the cash register. "Thank you. Have a good night." She smiled, exhaling a breath she didn't know she was holding in.
