Part V: Times of Peril

Third Person, Omniscient

The run had been necessary since they were creating an entire ecosystem from scratch, nowadays runs are different. Since they had community partnerships now it was a lot like going to a grocery store a lot less like going on a suicide mission.

That was unless you were the ones going to gather, needless to say, it wasn't as hard as it used to be.

Sadly today's run hadn't been the normal run, they were going to DC look for artifacts. The building of the new world needed these things this was the only way they'd get them.

They estimated it should take them no more than eight hours depending on how bad the walkers were once they got to the museum.

So when the time in Thalia's watch read five and the eight-hour mark had hit the anxiety in her body rose a few ticks.

Suddenly the confines of the room were too much and the words on the page became hard to look at so she left the big house and tried to work in the garden.

Despite having already spent hours there in the morning she figured there had to be something to do, so she pulled weeds until her watch read six.

By then she had caught herself looking up every few minutes and checking her surroundings to make sure they hadn't arrived without her knowing. It was safe to say the one time she wasn't looking and a voice interrupted her very detailed anxious thoughts it scared her.

The sun began setting quickly taking the bright light with it making the weed harder to see, soon she was just sitting and checking stems instead.

"Davidson!"

Spinning around she threw a hand out which was quickly caught, the familiar yellow fingertips making her heartbeat slow briefly.

"Okay since when do you punch on the first encounter, hello it's me your friend," Lily grinned holding onto the girl's hand as she stood up.

"I'm just wired, they left for the run nine damn hours ago and they were just going to Dc so it shouldn't be taking them this long. like did something happen are they hurt? or are they just slow? because they're slow i know they are but not this slow so something had to happen right?"

Thalia blinked slowly suddenly becoming aware of how fast she was talking and the rapid beating in her chest. Dropping the other's hand she moved it to her chest, eyes shifting around quickly as she took deep breaths

After a few more beats of silence she spoke, voice soft and quiet as if they were in a room full of crowded people.

"I'm just gonna assume you heard how unhinged you just sounded and we're taking a calm-down moment."
