willow had never really grasped the concept of growing up.

sure, she'd thought out her future like any young girl had but she never paid too much thought into how quick her school years had gone by.

she couldn't wrap her head around it.

she just couldn't understand how it had been six years since she had first rode the express, since that old hat was placed on her head defining what person she would become.

reminiscing over the years she spent there she found herself regretting the little things she had missed out on due to her focus on studying; the parties, the mischief, the excitement. the stories that circled her friend group had always been enticing to her but willow always had one goal keeping her from straying from her studies.

see, her future was planned out to the extent of her career. she had her eyes set on becoming one thing; a healer. as this was not an easy occupation to acquire, willow put all of her energy into collecting the needed credits to achieve her goal.

being the only hufflepuff in a family full of slytherins had an impact on how she presented herself, always over exceeding to impress her parents and older brother.

her mind began to wander, bringing her to the conclusion that this year would be different. she would leave her school years with memories that she could look back on without the regret of missing out.

the cool breeze passing through the window brushes against her sin, breaking willow from her thoughts. her attention was brought back to the packed suitcase upon her bed as she grasps a sweater off the corner of her chair, shuts her window and makes her way out to the spiral staircase.

"willow, are you almost done?" her mother calls from the entryway, causing an echo due to the emptiness of the home.

this place never felt like a home, the summers she had to spend between the four walls felt heavy on her shoulders whenever the season reappeared. her older brother,  face came into view as she made her way down, responding to her mother.

"yes mum, i'm right here."
