It all came down to this moment...
His breaths were rushed, his heart pounding like hundreds of tiny drums in his chest. It made him feel like he couldn't even breathe. Like no breath could ever reach deep enough to dislodge the panic settling in his heart, his lungs, his entire being. In his ears he could hear the rushing of the blood, the life source to the natural abilities his body possessed. His eyes were sharp, the color within gold. The depths of those eyes revealed the sheer panic of this moment.
Alvah reached up and tightened a scarf around his face, small drops of blood a sharp contrast against his pale skin. The metallic scent of it reached his nose and a grimace escaped him as he tugged his hood down lower to help better cover his face. He couldn't believe the amount of destruction going on around him, he just knew he had to keep going. He couldn't stop, not even for a moment. Not to catch his breath, nor to let his thoughts grow clearer in order to keep from screwing this up. No. He had to keep going. Every part of his being knew he couldn't stop...seems as if these people behind him have other plans...
"Stop! Stop him!!" were the distant calls that followed in his wake.
I can't stop. I have to finish what I started.
He pushed himself faster, dodging around a dark corner in a likely vain attempt to lose them. This led him straight into an obstacle. The scent of artificial peaches mixed with the salty twang of sweat whispered to his heart the very being that he had run into. A girl he had known very well, a girl he was no stranger to and yet, barely a word had been shared in months."You." Her voice was soft, her scent filling his senses and causing a weird euphoric shock to pass through him, especially when his gaze landed on those blue eyes that drew out clear memories of their past.
He felt his mind absorbing every inch of her. Their hearts had beat as one, her sweat mixing with his, her scent filling his senses as they were now...he momentarily felt himself go weak in both body and mind but quickly tried to rein himself back in.
"Tesha?" he took a hesitant step forward, that name leaving his lips in a hopeful whisper as his eyes quickly moved across her form and landed on her lips. She instead drew a dagger in a clear and painful warning.
With her eyes wide, her expression close to fearful, and her posture stiff; she seemed ready to pounce. "You..." she growled, her voice no longer holding that sweet tone she had used only seconds before.
Alvah couldn't help but feel drawn to her, like a moth to a flame he wanted to burn bright with her...Fire didn't stop until it had burned everything it could, but like water, she had put it out. She had put him out. Even as the point of her dagger threatened his flesh, he couldn't seem to move away. It had always been her weapon of choice. Small but deadly, a beautiful weapon laced with danger that had tasted the sharp tang of blood. The metallic taste that burned itself straight into the deepest parts of your memory."Tesha...Put that down." His voice was breathy but held no anger. He glanced momentarily at the dagger before turning his gaze back towards those beautiful blue eyes. Her brunette hair was tied back sloppily, small strands had fallen in her face. She was still as stunning as ever and it made him feel braver, like a shot of testosterone sent racing through his body and making his normally clear thoughts feel quite stupid in comparison.
"No! Get away from me" She quickly moved the dagger closer, causing Alvah to flinch and finally take a step back. When she spoke, her voice was pitched dangerously and there was a clear warning in it, "We aren't on the same side...Not anymore."
His golden eyes widened and he stumbled back but not nearly fast enough to escape the sting of her dagger as it plunged into the soft area around his middle. He hadn't been prepared for her to so easily make an attempt on his life, "T-Tesha..."
