Half a year later.
Mister Weasley and I had a well-rehearsed rhythm of sharing the morning paper. Without looking up, we exchanged the parts that interested us.
Only when I got hold of the part about topics from all over the world did I falter. Plastered there was a large photo of my parents staring into the camera full of disgust and hatred.
"Former luminaries of curse removal convicted of murder and cover-up." Further down the text was a picture of Ellen as I had known her. If the detective hadn't given me a heads-up, the article probably would have caught me off guard. But as it was, I could only stare at the pictures with glazed eyes.
My parents had killed Ellen because she had caught them ransacking the grave in the middle of the night. She had followed them when they had snuck out of camp, thinking my parents were looking for a way to help me, and Ellen's guilty conscience had driven her out of bed.
She must have discovered the wand before my parents did, but when she understood my parents' evil intentions, she had put the wand back in the coffin where my parents had already searched and would not search again.
Her suspicions had not been wrong. Only that my parents had noticed her doing it and then one thing had led to another. Ellen had confessed to them that she had been cursed and not me. The wand had deemed me worthy and therefore had hit the next target. Ellen.
From what I could learn back in London, there must have been a legend about two wands that contained heart fibers from an Erida and together could unravel even the greatest mysteries. No wonder my parents had been keen to master this challenge as well. And they had made it impossible for anyone else to decipher the riddle by taking the first wand.
I was still staring into my mother's hard eyes as ice cold water ran down my spine.
Screeching, I jumped to my feet and was greeted by equally loud but far happier shrieks.
"Ellen!", I yelled at the young augurey. Still no one knew how much of Ellen was in the bird. She behaved like a bird. But she responded to the name Ellen and loved to play tricks on me.
Since they had found her body and confirmed the identity of the bones, I had given up hope of getting Ellen back. At least she wasn't attacking anyone anymore. That was progress. But she had also never changed shape again, as she had done in the burial chamber.
"She saw your sour face," George laughed, kissing me as he passed. "Need anything from diagon alley?" He grabbed a piece of toast from my plate.
The twins had worked harder than was healthy all year. George hadn't even taken the time to have his ear treated in peace. Sometimes I wondered if he didn't secretly like the fact that people could finally tell them apart.
"Where are you going again?" shouted Molly, upset, from the kitchen, trying to stop her wild twins.
"Just running some errands. See you later Mom!" And before anyone could catch them, the twins jumped into the fireplace and were gone.
I knew exactly why they were so excited. They had met someone who was genuinely interested in investing in their inventions and today they would present their latest ideas. Grinning, I dried my pajamas. Even without my meddling, the twins would go far.
And looking at her proud grin, Molly Weasley had understood that, too.

Yay! This 55,000 word monstrosity of a fanfic is over!!! I'm so proud to have finally finished something.
I have to admit that I did have more fun with the story than I expected! In the beginning I didn't take it very seriously and just wanted to write romantic fluff but somehow.... well. This is how it came out.
I think I made some logic mistakes at the end because I cut scenes and changed something big in the plot again (At the beginning Fred and Maddie weren't supposed to come along, but I liked it better that way, even if Fred came a bit short).
Maybe I'll publish the cut scenes as bonus material soon? If you're up for it?
And do you want a sequel? I never mentioned what Osior and the rings are all about to leave that door open for me, but let's see.
wiiiiiihhh I'm a little excited to actually finish this! I hope you guys had fun reading it! Let me know what you especially liked, but also what you didn't! Then I can improve that on the next revision!
