She peers at the black hued water, her heart hammering painfully against her ribcage. Her grip against the rowboat is relentless, hurting her fingertips, but she doesn't let go as she stares at the blood staining the water.
She can still hear her companion's screams echoing throughout her head as the creature mercilessly dragged him below. Her grip on the wood tightens until she feels splinters digging into her flesh, so great is her terror.
The cavern is dark, hardly any light to be seen, save for a small trickle of light from soft glowing fungi. Silence is penetrating, deep and forbidden as death makes it, as a wraith itself.
She stares at the water, at the blood, still seeing it all. Her teeth are biting her lower lip, not noticing the blood trickling down her chin. She's shaking uncontrollably, her skin going cold.
She doesn't notice the creature rising quietly out of the black hued water, a few tell tale drips of water coming off it's scaly hide, its many toothed razored maw opening.
She doesn't notice the disembodied limbs nor head of her companion bobbing about in the water, his face locked eternally in a pained and terrified scream.
Before she knows it, the creature is upon her, biting down and dragging her down to hellish eternity.
