A profession that is rewarding yet hard. Appreciated but underappreciated.
Teaching is for the brave.
Teachers braving parents, students, a good school system, and the government. Telling them what they need to teacher. What standards need to be met. How kids should be disciplined.
Teaching shouldn't be disciplined. Teaching should be the students and teacher understand and build good relationships and manners. Everything a student needs for when they graduate and head to the real world.
Helping students understand skills for college, the workforce, or a trade. Critical thinking skills, writing skills and research skills. Collaboration is key in making well-rounded graduates.
Teaching also ignites curiosity. A certain subject may ignite a passion or understanding and a student may want to learn about it more. Or build their previous knowledge.
But the best thing about teaching is seeing the students and being there for them. Becoming a role model for a student who might not have one in their life. Watch as they grow throughout the school year, making friends and memories.
That is what teaching is about.
