Avonlia, the broken kingdom of the fae. Twin islands, Ioxamar and Inenara. Mystery shrouds their origins. One island is forever sunny, the other is snowy. Two polar opposites, as were their inhabitants. They were similar once, now their powers differentiate, much as their opinions do.

Inenara, the sunny island, was claimed by the Seelie. Happy Fae who loved to spend time growing plants. They divided into two courts, Summer and Spring. A ruler was appointed, and he soon had a family. His bloodline still rules that island.

Unseelie Fae were forced onto the cold island, Ioxamar. They made their home within the mountains, coming to peace with their fate. As time went on, they left themselves without a ruler, causing chaos to slowly leak across the sea to the Seelie. Their darkness began to infiltrate the bright and sunny island. Creatures of chaos and darkness.

The Seelie managed to contain the monsters to an island south-east of Ioxamar. That island became known as The Realm of Monsters. Then the Seelie appointed a ruler for the Unseelie, split them into two courts, Winter and Autumn. Winter remained in the mountains, while half the Fae were moved to a forest in the middle of the island.

Their job complete, the Seelie returned to Inenara. They told stories to their children, stories of the dark, cold Ioxamar. They told stories of the Unseelie, morphing them into the monsters. Their children began to fear their counterparts, and that fear became ingrained. Fear turned to hate, hate for the chaos the Unseelie were.

With the hate grew war. The Unseelie heard of the Seelie hate and began to cause even more chaos. They never knew why they were hated by them, but the various things said about them were enough to kindle a fire. Winter would use the split in the islands as a trash dump, currents washing it up on Seelie beaches.

Seelie fae never managed to set foot on Ioxamar, although they did try. The Seelie had let rumors fly, and the Unseelie High Lord had let hate form amongst his subjects. With hate, grew power.

The isles gifted the fae with powers, some stronger than others. The average Seelie could make a tree sprout in seconds, while the more powerful could control water or grow entire groves. Their powers weren't limited to the land, though. Some could see the future, others could shape-shift. Once in a blue moon, a faerie would be born with even more special powers. They could travel at the speed of light, move things with their mind. But there were even more special ones. The ones gifted with telepathy, or in one case, the ability to travel into others minds and swap out thoughts.

The Unseelie never documented their powers, or set themselves aside as the Seelie did. Any Seelie fae born with a special talent lived in a mountain chalet. They honed their powers, for hundreds of years, until the High Lord required them in his army.

All except for one unique faerie.
