It all began when in 1856 then BritishIndia when John an engineer faced difficulty in laying
tracks for railways found the ruins of the an ancient civilization.
The Harappa & Mohenjo-Daro('Mound of the dead') were the two astonishing cities discovered excavation. The later was discovered by Sir John Marshall, the Director-General of Britishindia in 1922 which is 350 milies south of the former. These both ancient cities now remain at present day Pakistan.
The eventually revealed remains of 2 ancient cities so similar that the archeologist say they obviously belonged to same civilization......but not even one is mentioned in Indian tradition.
The civilisation is named after the river Indus which gave its life and
perhaps caused its downfall.
It appears it began & established by 2500 BC and ended by about 1500 BC.
The first urban site...
The Indus valley cities must be the cradle of urban cities because after 50 years of careful excavation it is continuing to be a source of puzzle.
These cities have everything like a modern city such as well planned streets,,complex sanitary & sewage system, developed both in private & public hygiene, citadels, public treasury...many more in short they had everything a modern city gas except powerplant..as far to our knowledge.
Like all ancient civilisation the mystery about the Indus valley is that where did they go?????? what happened to them..how did the Indian tradition missed these cities..???which religion they followed????According to some archeologist they sugest that the floods in river Indus may caused their fall..some say Aryan Invasion may have caused it...But the peculiar thing about them they have found ancient seals containing bull symbol, relics of bulls which appear frequently in their arts it seems it may have some religious significance........ How knows it may be the Nandi,of lord Pasupathi(Shiva)...
