aletophobia (n)
The fear of imperfection or not being good enough.♠ ♣ ♥ ♦
Since she was 18 years old, the day she left her family in Europe to live alone in Japan, Emiko Mitsuya has not stopped working hard to build the life of her dreams. First in her class at the University of Psychology, she works every night, weekends and vacations in a café in Shibuya district in order to save money. The little free time she has left, she spends studying and listening to music. A basic life for a twenty-two years old woman. But this is not the life she had before she arrived in Japan 4 years earlier. She grew up in an abusive family that brought her to the ground several times and since then, she promised herself to do everything to succeed alone and as best as possible. For her, failure is not an option. She doesn't want to be one of those people who succeed because they have money or because they know the right people. She wants to be recognized for her talents and skills and for the way she has climbed the ladder on her own and she is willing to do anything, even the worst, to succeed.
One sunny summer afternoon, she left work earlier than usual, because of the heat and the lack of customers, and decided to go shopping to refresh her wardrobe. She walked in the streets of Shibuya, entering the stores that interested her but not really finding her happiness. After an hour of intensive research, she decided to go to the Shibuya station to go home. When she arrived at the crossroads of Shibuya, she passed a store where she saw a sweater that she liked. She decided to enter the store and try it on. So she took the sweater and went to the first free fitting room she found. While she was undressing, the lights of the store suddenly went out. She hurried to put on the sweater and went out of the cabin to see what was going on, believing in a simple power failure surely due to the heat in town that day.
To his surprise, there was no one left in the store. No customers, no salesmen, no one. Out of curiosity, she went out of the store and saw that there was no one outside either. But where could people have gone? She laughed nervously and decided to go for a walk further into town. Night had fallen, and after what seemed like two hours of searching and not seeing or hearing anyone, she returned to the Shibuya intersection. A giant screen suddenly lit up, displaying a single sentence: "WELCOME, PLAYERS. THE GAME WILL COMMENCE IN A MOMENT" followed by an arrow.
