Ava Kingsley is basking in her post-senior year summer- until she gets a phone call that sends her universe spinning in a completely new direction.

The disappearance of 22 year old diner waitress Jamie Clark and her son Tyler is a cold case closed...
THE RAIN CAME out of nowhere. The dark grey clouds overtook the clear blue sky in seconds, and Jamie and her son, Tyler, were caught right in the middle of it.
"Tyler!" Jamie yelled into the rain. Jamie had brought her three year old to the park to play on the playground, but the weather made that thought a pipe dream.
"Mommy!" Tyler squealed. "Rain!"
Jamie couldn't hold back a giggle at her toddler's antics. She had been worried, in the early days, of raising him by herself. Now that he was growing like a weed and excited about everything, Jamie couldn't complain about the endless laundry and play dates.
He was such a good kid.
The wind was picking up, the branches on the tall oak trees shaking with it.
"Tyler, sweetie. Come back to Mommy. We need to go home," Jamie called towards the playground. When there wasn't an immediate response, she got up from the bench, her joints cracking. Though she was twenty-two, her career as a college volleyball player made her feel like she was eighty-two.
Jamie couldn't see the flash of Tyler's bright yellow pikachu shirt anymore.
"Tyler?" Jamie yelled, her heartbeat picking up. She knew they shouldn't have gone to the park; Tyler had probably fallen down and didn't want her to know.
"Mommy!" Tyler's shrill voice was panicked. It came from across the playground.
Jamie quickly crossed the small inclosed area with the small mulch pellets and stepped into the parking lot, her gaze tracing all the shadows still there.
There was only one car, and it wasn't hers, still there.
"Mommy!" Tyler was yelling now, at a volume Jamie chastised him for using in the house.
Jamie picked up her pace, jogging over to the car. When she rounded the back of the car, she froze.
Tyler was being held at gunpoint.
Jamie's heart stopped. She knew there'd be consequences for what she'd had to do, but she had never in a million years thought they would come for her and her son while they were at the park.
"Get in the truck," their captor rumbled, gesturing to the open truck beside him. "Or the kid gets hurt."
Jamie swallowed, but didn't hesitate before hopping into the backseat.
"Turn off your phone," their captor continued, "and put that duct tape over your mouth."
With shaking hands, Jamie did as she was told, silent tears running down her face.
The captor checked the tape before tossing Tyler in with Jamie and closing the door behind him.
The engine revved as the kidnapper turned on the truck and drove away, Jamie and Tyler trembling in the backseat.
