It was meant to be an exciting night for all the children of Greendale. There was going to be a dance night at Greendale School to help raise money for a children's charity called Raising Stars, which was a charity to help children with less education opportunities unlike the children in Greendale. All the children were very excited about this dance, except Bill Thompson and Sarah Gilbertson.
Even though he knew that he would be with all his friends, Bill felt that he couldn't dance. He was usually a very cool and confident kid about everything, but dancing was the only one thing that he wasn't confident about. He felt that if he even tried, he would be embarrassed and be a laughing joke to his friends. He felt embarrassed dancing without anyone looking at him, let alone with anyone else whether they be a boy band or dancing with anyone especially to the girl of his dreams, Sarah Gilbertson. He wouldn't have even gone in the first place if his parents didn't insist that he go to it.
"Don't you need a hand with the sheep tonight, Dad?" Bill asked, as he and his parents had tea.
"Nay, don't worry about the sheep, Bill," said his father Alf. "They'll be okay without you for one night."
"Besides," said his mother Dorothy. "Due to all the hard work you do on the farm, you don't get to hang out with your friends very much. Think of this as a treat."
Bill decided to give up talking to his parents about it and just go to the school dance. Even though he felt comfortable wearing his cool clothes that his mother helped him choose to wear, he still didn't feel more confident about his dancing.
Meanwhile, Sarah Gilbertson was nervous at going to the school dance herself. She was stressing over what to wear and if she looked good enough and that she couldn't dance. Even though she had help from her mother Dr. Sylvia Gilbertson about her makeup, lipstick and dress, she still didn't feel confident about going to the school dance.
"Don't worry, dear," Dr. Gilbertson said to her daughter. "I was very shy before I went to my very first school dance."
"So how did you overcome it, Mum?" Sarah asked.
"I just arrived at the school and just danced and that's how I became more confident," Dr. Gilbertson replied. "Trust me, honey. Once you get there and you dance and you do it more, you'll be fine and have more fun than you thought you were going to have, I promise."
"Well, okay, Mum," Sarah said. "Thanks for your advice and help."
At seven o'clock, all the children were back at their school in their dance clothes. They all complimented their friends about how cool their dance clothes were and even though they thanked them for it, Bill and Sarah were still not feeling more confident about the dance any more than they were before.
"Welcome to the school dance, children," the schoolteacher Jeff Pringle said. "I'm glad you all came. And now I'll put on some music while you warm up for the next ten minutes before the main competition starts. Enjoy."
Then Mr. Pringle put on some dance music and the children got busy with their warmups. Bill tried his best, but he felt he couldn't and after five minutes he gave up completely and sat down on the chair. Sarah felt and did exactly the same.
"Hello, Bill, Sarah," Postman Pat greeted. He was among the few adults helping Mr. Pringle with this school dance along with his wife Sarah, PC Arthur Selby and Nisha Bains.
"Hi, Pat," Bill greeted back.
"Hello, Pat," Sarah greeted back.
"What's up?" Pat asked. "You guys don't feel like dancing?"
