Elisa Castillo, 24 years of age, was raised by a single mother in the United States, Isel Castillo. Elisa had always been curious about her biological father's side of the family, especially since she was raised in the states with her at the time single-mother. Her mother, Isel, arrived in New York City being months pregnant from Mexico. Isel worked many jobs to give Elisa the life she always wanted for her. Eventually, she met Pedro Castillo during nursing school when Elisa was 8 years old. Isel and Pedro got married a few years after. Pedro adopted Elisa as her own and although she was happy about having a father figure around, as it had always been her and her mother, she became eager to know more about her mother's past and her biological father.

As Elisa got older, she began to question her mother's stories. The story always changed constantly throughout the years. The only big detail that never changed was her hometown where she met Elisa's biological father. They met and lived in a small village in  Mexico called Valle de Bravo . They met at a young age, 18 years old to be exact. Elisa pondered often, questioning whether he was a farmer who left her when she was a few months pregnant or if he was a wealthy asshole who abandoned her mother, wanting no part with a "hooker" as her mother explained his family would call her.

Elisa was sure that her mother was hiding something from her. Isel's stories didn't align anymore, making Pedro question her as well. Isel would defend herself, explaining to them how much trauma she had to bare at a young age, fleeing away from her home to escape the violence and her toxic family.

Here and there, Isel, would receive strange calls from different Spanish-speaking people. Elisa assumed it was her mother's family, yet when she would ask her mother about it, she would change subjects.

Elisa graduated from university while studying abroad in Spain with her doctoral degree. Ultimately, becoming a surgeon at a private institution in Spain. One day while visiting her mother back home in New York, she overheard them talking about Isel's family. How they needed help and wanted her to come back home. Isel mentioned how she would send back money to them, writing down an address on a small index card, and placing it in her wallet.

Avid about the address written down on the index card, later that night, Elisa snuck into her mother's bedroom and stole the index card. She looked the address up on her phone, directly landing in the middle of her mother's hometown in Valle de Bravo. As determined as she was to get to the truth, she impulsively bought a ticket to Guadalajara, Mexico, which was 6 hours away from Valle de Bravo. This is where her journey began and where her life would change forever.
