One early morn, the Rooster flies to the barn top to give his waking call for the day. As he walks to his spot he notices a tree frog sitting by the edge of the roof: It was stunning, with its vibrant green. The Rooster was instantly enamored and felt plain next to the bright and colorful amphibian. The Rooster approached the frog just as she started over the roof edge. "No, dont leave!" The Rooster cried. The Frog paused, looking up at him. "But why not?" She asked. "Because." He said, "You must make me a frog."
Frog shook her head. "I cannot make you a frog."
The Rooster thought about that for a moment.
"Could you show me how to be a frog, then?"
Frog shook her head again. "You are a Rooster." She told him. Rooster ruffled his feathers, annoyed. "That is why you must show me how to be a frog." The Frog considered this carefully, tilting her head as she did so. "Fine. I will show you what makes a frog, a frog." She stepped up to the edge once more. "Watch." She said. "And do as i do." She proceeds carefully and skillfully walking down the side of the barn in the way that tree frogs do.Rooster watched in envy, wishing all the more he were a frog. After making it to the ground, Frog looks up and nods encouragingly. "Now do as i did." The Rooster was nervous but excited.
He was going to be a frog! Being as careful as Frog had, Rooster tried to step down the wall.
Since he was in fact a rooster though, his feet did not grasp the wall and he fell to the far ground below, flapping his wings.Luckily for him nothing but his pride was hurt.
The Frog's eyes were twinkling with humor as Rooster was putting his feathers to rights. But Rooster was far from amused. "You said you would show me how to be a frog!" He said. The Frog tilted her head. "I did. But you are a rooster, you can not do as a frog does." She said. The Rooster clicked his beak angrily. "Not anymore! i wish to be a frog!" He huffed. Frog shook her head. "But why should you wish to be something you are not?" She said. The Rooster had to think over her words for a long minute.
"Well." He finally replied. "You are so very beautiful."
Frog smiled. "But so are you, in only the way a rooster can be."
