Ruby and Eli lay sprawled on the wet ground, rain pouring so heavily they could barely see. Ruby struggled to her feet, clutching her arm, which now felt completely shattered from the fall. Eli scrambled up beside her, fumbling with the car keys as water made them slippery. When the keys slipped from his grasp, he quickly bent down to retrieve them.Allison stepped out of the car, moving slowly, her expression cold and calculated.
"Run!" Eli shouted, finally managing to unlock the auto shop's door.
Ruby froze, her body unwilling to move, paralyzed by fear and pain. Eli didn't wait; he grabbed her arm, dragging her along as they stumbled inside.
The moment they entered, the sound of an explosion echoed behind them. Eli didn't hesitate, pulling Ruby further into the shop.
"We need to go!" he urged, his voice strained.
The two ducked behind a car, crouching low as Eli peeked under the vehicle. He spotted Allison walking inside, her movements predatory. He quickly pulled back and gestured for Ruby to stay quiet.
"We're going to die," Ruby whispered, her voice trembling as she clutched her arm.
She reminded herself of her father's words: If she comes for you, scream.
Allison turned to search another corner, and the teenagers quietly slid toward a piece of equipment used to lift cars. Ruby followed Eli's lead, keeping low as they moved.
When Allison's back was turned, Eli grabbed a wrench and whispered to Ruby, "Stay here."
He squeezed her hand briefly before stepping out. Ruby's heart pounded as she watched him approach Allison, his grip tightening on the wrench. But she couldn't let him face this alone. Ignoring the pain, she followed him.
The confrontation was swift and brutal. Allison turned just as Eli raised the wrench, and she struck him hard across the face, sending him sprawling. Ruby's stomach dropped as she saw blood trickle from Eli's forehead.
"Okay, banshee powers, if you're ever going to work, now's the time," Ruby muttered to herself, her voice shaking.
Summoning every ounce of strength, Ruby screamed. The sound was deafening, a raw, guttural force that sent Allison flying backward into a wall. Even Eli clutched his ears, the power of the scream overwhelming him.
But Ruby was spent. Her body gave out, and she collapsed beside Eli. Allison began to stir, recovering far too quickly for Ruby's liking.
Eli slumped next to her, and she whispered, "I don't think I can do that again."
Allison loomed over them, her bow drawn, an arrow aimed directly at their heads. Ruby held her breath, her vision blurring from exhaustion.
"Allison, stop!" a voice called out.
Ruby turned her head to see Scott and Stiles rushing inside. Scott's voice was commanding, filled with urgency, but Allison barely flinched. She hesitated for only a moment before letting the arrow fly—straight at Scott.
"Go! Go! Go!" Scott shouted as the arrow narrowly missed him.
Stiles grabbed Ruby to help her up, his hand accidentally gripping her injured arm. She screamed in pain, the sound piercing through the auto shop. Everyone, including Allison, clutched their ears, overwhelmed by the banshee's cry.
"I'm sorry!" Stiles said, looking horrified as he adjusted his grip.
The group bolted, with Allison close behind, firing arrows relentlessly. They barely managed to duck behind another car as Scott tried to reason with her.
