— fred squats down next to [name], as they both observed the rather old basket infront of them. the contents inside the basket were three kittens and an old stained rag. the three kittens stuck their heads out. the first one was gray, the other was orange, last but not least, the third is a calico.
the small things meowed loudly upon making contact with the two. [name] then reached their hand towards the kittens, letting the kittens sniff their fingers in curiosity. without a word, fred then stuffs his hand into [name]'s white, pristine, lab coat. in search of something.
"i'll be right back." fred said, walking away with their money.
a while later, fred came back with a small paper bag. fred tossed back the pouch, which [name] caught it with ease.
fred then opened the paper bag, pulling out a single sardine. the three kittens then snapped their heads towards the direction of the fish. almost immediately, the kittens meowing became louder as they scrambled out of the basket.
fred placed the raw sardine on the ground, lettling the kittens devour said fish. after watching them for a while, [name] stood up.
"i need to get back to work, my lunch break is almost over. lets go fred.." they said, gently tugging the boy's sleeve. "mm.." he hummed, standing up as well.
while walking, [name] called out
"fred"
"yes?"
"i'm getting off work a bit earlier than usual today. you still have the key i gave you, right?"
fred pulled out a key. it was one of [name]'s backup house keys.
"mhm, i'll come over"
"okay..."
"what's for dinner tonight?"
"sardines"
