Kenjiro’s Pov
“Ken? Why are you crying?” Stacy asked as she walked out of her room.
“Y-You don’t w-want to know,” I muttered, sniffling.
“But we want to,” Haitsu pleaded.
“No,” I sternly responded as I got up. “I’m going down to give Semi food.””
I went down the stairs into the kitchen and saw Mom in the corner. Silence. For the first time in my life, I was in the same room with Mom without a sound being heard.
“You going downstairs?” Mom asked, still not looking at me.
“Mhm,” I muttered.
I left the room and descended into the basement. I opened the metal door to see Semi sitting in the corner, fast asleep.
“You need food,” I stated as I locked the door.
No response.
“Wake up, idiot.”
No response.
I sighed and went over to the sleeping ash-blonde. I kneeled down in front of him and flicked his forehead.
“Ow!” he groaned. “What was that for?”
“You need to eat,” I sternly stated, grabbing the sandwich.
“Hey, why are you crying?” Semi’s expression changed quickly when he saw me.
“Doesn’t matter,” I muttered. “Eat.”
“Not until you talk to me.”
“Eat.”
“Talk.”
“Eat.”
“Talk.”
I sighed, admitting defeat, “One bite, then I’ll talk.”
“Fine,” Semi groaned and took a bite of the sandwich.
“My ma is getting help,” I respond, taking a deep breath.
“Oh, is that bad?”
“Well, it means she’s going to be away for a while with me left here to get a job. Full time job.”
“What about school? Don’t you want to be a doctor?”
“I have to make money to keep food on the table, and my siblings will be the ones who go to school.”
“What about your education?”
“Don’t have a need for one anymore.”
“Well, what bout your dad?”
“Do you really think a homophobic, transphobic mafia leader will just stop everything to help his gay and non-binary kids that he made with a queer lady?”
“Guess not.”
“He’s probably just gonna move in with one of those girls he has hooked up with.”
“Yikes.”
“Now, eat,” I commanded.
Semi groaned as he continued to eat the sandwich. I just stared at a wall as he was eating. I couldn’t stop thinking about what’s going to happen to my family now. Stacy and the twins will have to go into a public situation with no prior knowledge, and Mom will be confined into one place with someone watching her every move.
“Hey,” Semi snapped me out of my thoughts. “Do you want to talk about it?”
“There’s nothing to talk about,” I quietly shot back.
“Shira, you know you can talk to me, right?” Semi asked with a sympathetic smile.
“Really?” I snapped. “Or are you just saying that because I’m taking care of you?”
“Shira…?”
“You do know that I’m not going to be on the team anymore, right?” A small gasp was released from Semi’s lips, yet he kept quiet. “I’m not going to be at Shiratorizawa anymore. Will you actually continue to talk to me? Actually want to hang out with the brat of the team?” Tears burned my eyes as anger rose.
“But, you’re just a second year,” Semi whispered.
“Just a second year?” I scoffed. “A second year with major family issues that won’t allow me to be normal.”
Semi took one of his cuffed hands up to my face with a soft smile. “Shira, I won’t stop trying to make things work even after this.”
I narrowed my eyes and just stared at Semi. “Really?”
“I promise,” Semi softly smiled, yet a smile wasn’t an option right now.
After a few hours, I went upstairs to see Dad walking in through the door. Tension quickly filled the room. An argument was about to break out.
“You’re home early, Suzuki,” Mom growled.
“Yea, slow day,” Dad muttered back.
“Luckily, it’ll be your last,” Mom smirked as she tied Dad’s hands together.
“Kritana!” Dad yelled. “What are you doing?”
“A magic trick,” Mom sneered as she dragged him into the living room.
‘Mom is going to kill him,’ I thought, happily. I peeked into the living room to see Dad getting chained to the wall. Dad was grunting and shouting at Mom to let him down.
“You stupid hoe! Let me down!” Dad ordered.
“No can do, you bastard,” Mom chuckled as she grabbed her gun. That’s when I ran.
I ran upstairs to make sure that the young’uns wouldn’t hear. I burst into their room and grabbed their headphones. Their ears were covered as I covered my own. Bang! Four gunshots rang through the house and that was it. ‘She must’ve decided on going the tortuous route,’ I smiled.
Dad was no longer
