Delilah took a deep breath before pressing her finger on the doorbell. The baby car seat in one hand and the baby bag slung over her shoulder she stood in front of her brother's house. Nervously she inspected the tall windows and the wooden walls. Paul definitely seemed to make a living, but she knew that already. She had known that her brother would be famous one day, ever since they were kids. But still it was surreal to her, luckily she had always managed to stay under the radar. Nobody cared about Paul Wesley's little sister anyway. Imagine what they would say about her now, college drop out, failed author and single mother. All that before she even reached twenty one.
The door opened and her brother greeted her with a warm hug. "I can't believe you actually showed up, Dee!"
"It's not like I had another choice, did I?" Delilah laughed and gladly handed him the heavy baby seat. Paul talked to the tiny human, who was looking around curiously.
"Come on, I want to introduce you to everyone!" Her brother excitedly pulled her arm towards the living room. Delilah dropped the baby bag by the coat rag and followed him.
Delilah smiled at the many strangers that were standing around the living room. She looked with envy at the many glasses wine being passed around, she hadn't drank since she found out she was pregnant about a year ago. Technically she could, if she then just pumped the breast milk, but when you're a single mother you don't get much opportunity to drink at all. Maybe she should have a glass of wine tonight?
"Everyone," Paul spoke up and immediately all eyes were set on the siblings. Delilah tried to hide her nervousness and sweetly smiled at the strangers. "I would like you to meet my baby sister, Delilah, and my beautiful little niece, Charlotte."
Delilah waved towards the strangers, suddenly feeling very out of place. A tall dark haired man approached the siblings, "I can't believe I finally get to meet Baby Wesley." He gave Delilah a quick hug and then took a look at the babbling baby. "I'm Ian, nice to meet you."
"Actually, its Wasilewski." Delilah corrected him, smiling apologetic, "Ian, I have heard so much about you."
"Only good things I hope." The man laughed taking a sip of the wine. A brunette woman stood next to Ian, smiling brightly at the young mother. "Have you met my girlfriend Nina?"
"No, we haven't. I'm Nina, I work with your brother. You have such an adorable daughter."
"Thank you," Delilah smiled proudly, "It's nice to meet you, Nina." She looked in between Ian and Nina. The second couple alongside Phoebe and Paul. She gave a quick look to the other people in the room, a gorgeous blonde woman and a handsome dark blonde man were talking in the kitchen. Were those two dating as well? Was she the extra on some kind of triple date?
"Over there are Claire, she's Phoebe's oldest friend, and Joseph, he works also works with us." Paul explained when he followed her gaze.
"Hey there!" Phoebe entered the room in a hurry and greeted Paul with a quick kiss. "Sorry I'm late, Babe."
"Alright, now that everyone is here. We should start with dinner." Paul announced and Delilah looked over to her daughter, peacefully sleeping in her car seat. She unconsciously started smiling as she watched her daughter's calm little face.
Everyone was heading for the dinner table and Delilah took the seat next to her brother. She looked around the table. Claire, who was sitting opposite of her, smiled warmly at her.
"Hey, you must be Paul's little sister. Delilah, right?" She asked taking a sip of her wine.
"Yes, and you're Phoebe's friend, Claire. Nice to meet you." Delilah smiled back.
"Yes, I also work with them. Phoebe and I have known each other since we were children." Phoebe, after hearing her name sat beside her friend to join the conversation.
"Do all of you work together?" Delilah asked while looking at the faces around the table.
Joseph who had sat down beside her, "Yes, we all act. What do you do for a living?"
"I write a little, but nothing good." She blushed, she hated talking about her work.
"What do you write?" He smiled at her, seemingly intrigued by the shy girl.
"Whatever I can get my hands on now a days." She laughed. "I used to do some articles, but since I had Lottie, I'm a little more housebound."
"It can't be easy being a single mother." Nina stated and Delilah smiled.
"Yeah, but I got a great support system. My parents really helped me through everything and Paul helped whenever he could. I don't think I could have done it without them." Delilah smiled at her big brother.
Dinner was served and it was probably the best food Delilah had eaten since her move. As a single mother she barely had time to cook and it was nice to enjoy an evening with nice people and a glass of wine. Looking back, she had no reason to be scared. Paul's friends were absolutely lovely people and Delilah enjoyed finally spending time with people that weren't her parents.
Her daughter was fast asleep, when the driver dropped her off in front of her apartment building. She moved slowly, so she wouldn't wake her and walked up the stairs.
She smiled as she set her down in the crib and quickly changed back into her sweatpants. She sat down at her desk, turning on her laptop. Now that Charlotte was finally asleep, she could finally get some work done. She checked the email she had gotten from her editor and opened the chapter she was currently working on.
When she checked the time again, it was already past two in the morning. The single mother yawned and stretched her back. She was exhausted. It had been a lot the last days. The move, the baby, living alone, working. But her life was finally coming along, and even though her writing career wasn't taking off anytime soon, it felt like every chapter she wrote brought her one step closer. She checked on the sleeping baby once more before letting herself fall into bed. She was asleep before her head even hit the pillow.
