1994 Hogwarts

"I'm actually quite intrigued for this lesson", Vienna spoke softly as the quartet climbed the stairs to the Defence Against Dark Arts classroom, "I mean, Aries said that Moody was one of the best aurors to ever live and we get to be taught by him"

Elia and Aries shared a look before the red-head spoke, "he's a good aurora and everything, but according to dad, Moody is completely bonkers, saying that theirs dark wizards hunting him all hours of the day, he's even enchanted most of the things in and around his house to keep people away, which would be fine if he didn't live in the middle of a muggle village", Aries chuckled.

"I think we should go in with open minds, my mother speaks highly of him and that should mean something at least", Simon nodded along with his friends words before leading them into the classroom.

Moody stood at the end of the room beside a chalkboard, "everyone take a seat", the students, a mix of Hufflepuff and Slytherin, did as they were told and moved into the seats in the classroom. Elia and Simon sat together, Vienna sat down and Aries was about to sit beside her when a hand pulled him into another seat, he looked to his right to see the blank face of Micheal Nott, Aries then turned and shot an apologetic look to Vienna who only shook her head with a small smile and began chatting to her new seat mate. The class all looked to Moody as he began writing on the board, "Alastor Moody. Ex-Auror... Ministry malcontent... and your new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. The only reason I am here is because Dumbledore asked me, there shall be no questions about this, understood?", the class all shared look with each other, already on edge from the mans clipped tone, "when it comes to the dark arts, I believe in a practical approach. Now, for our first lesson we will be looking at curses, who can tell me how many Unforgivable curses there are?", some hands were raised and Moody pointed to one, "you, Miss...?"

"Berry, sir", Vienna spoke strongly, "there are three unforgivable curses, they are named this because the use of any one of them is illegal and means life in Azkaban"

Moody wrote '3 Unforgivable Curses' on the board as Vienna spoke, "correct, Miss Berry", he span to look at the class, "the Ministry believe that you are too young to know about these curses, I think different! You need to know exactly what your up against! You need to be prepared! You need to be ready for when the time comes! Now! Which curse shall we see first?", he turned to the red-headed girl beside Simon, "Miss Weasley, stand, give us a curse"

Elia did as she was told, and stood, although her hands began to shake slightly, "The Imperius Curse. My dad told me about it", Moody nodded his head.

"Yes, the Imperius Curse, your father would now a lot about that one. Gave the Ministry quite a bit of trouble a few years back. This will show you why", Aries already knew about these curses, his mother hd told him about them after she found him looking through some of her books, and the boy had to steel himself to see this monstrous magic in real time. Moody picked a spider out of his jar, "hello, beautiful", he raised his wand to the creature and snarled, "Engorgio", the spider grew in his palm, allowing all the students to see the next part clearly, "Imperio" he growled out, and it was as if invisible strings had been attached to the spiders body as it jumped through the air and landed before Elia who pushed herself away from her desk gripping Simons hand. The class remains silent as Moody made the spider fly across the room, their eyes widened as he made it jump on top of Aries' head, the boy remained still allowing the spider to crawl  over his hair and face, this reaction seemed to satisfy the ex-auruor as he smirked, "I could make her  throw herself from the window", all eyes followed the spider as it flew towards the window, stopped by a magnifying glass, "drown herself", his words turned dark as he lowered the spider over a bucket of water, he then brought the spider back to his hand and looked out at the class, "Dozens of witches and wizards have claimed that they only did you-know-who's bidding under the influence of the Imperius Curse. So, how do we separate the liars?"
