The last thing I remember before being knocked unconscious was the sight of my lover. Left in the hands of horrible people. I wish I could've saved him. Now I am at a funeral, and looking down in a casket to see my boyfriends beautiful features.
"Ugh!" I groaned as I threw my book down in frustration. The boyfriend was my favorite character in the whole series.
"What's up?" I heard from across the room. My alive and beautiful girlfriend was standing in the doorway holding some laundry. I looked up at her annoyed but when I saw her perfect, and alive, face my eyes softened.
"My favorite character died." I muttered, a little embarrassed. "The boyfriend?" She asked. I have had many nightly conversations with her about the book and explaining how interesting it was, so she knew a lot about it without even reading the series.
I gave a small nod as a reply to her question. She sighed and went beside me on the couch to start folding the Laundry. "Let me help." I spoke. I moved a bit from my original spot but winced form the pain in my leg, forcing me to move back.
"It's fine. You need to rest your leg" she replied. "It's rested long enough. You've done to much for me. I need to return the favor." I wined. My girlfriend just rolled her eyes and continued to fold the towels. "You just got you leg stitched together. The stitches will break if you keep moving." I tried to sit up from my spot, wincing again at the sting that shot up my leg and through my body. "Then I'll return the favor when I can run faster than you." I mumbled.
My girlfriends name is Alice and my name is Riley. I have been with Alice for 2 years and I work as a retail worker. My leg was cut really deep by this crazy person who thought I was trying to attack her. She took her keys and somehow managed to cut my leg. Fucking crazy.
"How was your time shopping here?" I asked the man in front of me. At my job their are two rules: ask the same shit to everyone and don't fuck up rule one. The man just looks at me with a blank stare as I start to ring up his items. I get this a lot but his stare felt different.
"Okay your total will be $34.21." I spoke up after the long silence. I don't know why I haven't found another job because this job gets to weird sometimes.
"I assume you don't get a lot of complements." What. The. Fuck. Did this guy go to the school for assholes. "Are you paying credit or debit?" I ask, trying to ignore what the man said.
"I asked you a question." He dictated. "Um, no sir I don't." I lied. Why would I tell him anything about my personal life. The look on his face looked satisfied, and I hated it.
A couples hours went by and now I'm on floor duty. Floor duty is basically helping someone if they needed it or in my case, just standing around because people don't know how to socialize and ask for help when they need it.
When I was walking to the dairy section I bumped into a lady and her kids, on accident of course. "Hey! What's your problem?" The mom yelled. Seeing her kids try and cover their faces made me chuckle a bit.
"Is something funny?" The mother asked, clearly being serious. "No... excuse me." I mumble under my breath when I tried to walk off but I feel something grab my shoulder. My mom thought self defense was super important because I grew up in a dangerous part of my neighborhood. That's why she took me to self defense classes, for two years.
I grabbed the woman's hand and gripped it tightly. I swung the hand over my head as a little simple act to get out of her hold. She was left stunned and disgusted. "Don't touch me peasant!" The mother yelled again. Not even a second later the mother kicked my right crutch, making me lose balance and fall on my back.
I can't get up that easily because of my leg and the pain from falling, let alone the pain already coming from my leg that the painkillers won't kill already buzzing. This is gonna leave a big ass bruise later, literally.
My friend Sandra, another employee here, ran over and helped me up to my feet. The mother and her kids were already long gone by now. I didn't know that lady could get so mad and be so strong.
My shift ends in four hours, let's see if this gets worse.
It got worse. Way more worse.
"Clean up in aisle 3. Clean up in aisle 3 please." I repeat into the mic. Some spoiled child was throwing a tantrum in the sodas and juices aisle and somehow punched fucking holes in the cans and threw them everywhere! And of course the mother is not paying the fees because it wasn't their fault. I believe that your child is your own fucking responsibility.
The phone rang in my office. "Riley Davidson's office how can I help you." I put on the fakest of all fakes accent you could get at dollar tree. "All of the custodians are out on lunch..." of course they are. " and you are the only person here who is a available to do it. I promise I tried as many people as I could but everyone couldn't do it... except you?" She said very hopeful but also worried I would say no. I don't know how to say no. That's how I landed smack right in the middle of this job situation were I do everything.
"Alright, I'm headed there now."

—It's been two months and my brace is finally off and the stitches have been taken out. When I moved my leg for the first time it was numb but there was also this satisfying crack from the knee, what you'd expect from not moving your leg a lot for four months.
But even after the healing process, my leg was still bruised and sore, making it as difficult to walk as it was with the brace on. But I manage it somehow.
"Knock knock." Alice said form behind the door before she opened it. "Whatcha doing. Being sad and alone?" Alice joked. "Waiting." I spoke a bit low. I was waiting for something though. I was waiting to be picked up and taken to me and Alice's fucking bed and cuddle each other to sleep. That's what I'm fucking waiting for.
"For what?" She asked me, knowing full well what I meant. "You know what I'm talking about." I answered. I stuck both of my hands out in front of me and made an open and close motion at Alice. Basically gesturing her to come and pick me up. What can I say, I'm a pretty high maintenance gal here.
Alice sighed and walked over to me. Her arms encased me and locked behind me on my back. Either seconds my legs were lying on top of her hips and my arms were over her chest, hugging her tightly so I wouldn't fall off of her.
Alice stood still for a second with me in her arms. She leaned in and kissed me on my forehead. When she retreated she looked at me.
